Counselor's Corner with Ms. Achberger
Each grade is working on unique goals for their social-emotional development. Reinforcing these concepts with your children at home will help them to be even more successful at home and in the classroom!
K-1: Paying attention with our eyes, ears, and brain!
2-3: Practicing a skill to get better at it! (3rd Grade also learned about how this affects our brains!)

Tips for the Year from Mr. Sette
October Transportation Department Updates
Welcome Fall!!! We love fall here in Transportation!! (it's not as hot on the buses)
When you see a school bus watch for kids:
Caution: Precious Cargo on Board. Each and every fall, thousands of yellow school buses come out of hibernation to shuttle Ohio's children to and from school. Since we all share the road with these gentle giants, we must all be extremely careful around them. After all, they carry very precious cargo.
I would like to start a little monthly trivia if I can.....
First Ever Transportation Trivia.... for October!! (Look for the correct answer somewhere in the newsletter)
When you are getting on and off the bus, you should always cross the street behind the bus.
True or False
The Transportation Team welcomes communication with all parents. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you might have!
Remind again:
Bobcats please remember that masks MUST be worn while riding on school transportation. Please be sure to have your mask handy when entering the bus.
If you have any questions, you may reach out to Lori Weinman (Transportation Coordinator) via email or phone call (330-435-1141).
Student Handbook Talking Points
- If your child has a fever they must remain out of school for a minimum of 48 hours. They are able to return after these days as long as the last 24 hours they were fever-free without the aid of fever-reducing medication.
DRESS CODE REMINDER
- Tank tops, muscle shirts, bare midriffs, or sleeveless shirts are NOT permitted. Also, socks are to be worn at ALL times, even with sandals.
2021-2022 NES BREAKFAST and LUNCHES
Norwayne Masks Update as of October 1, 2021
- For the 2021-2022 school year, students/families will have the option to choose what they would like to do with mask-wearing when on Norwayne grounds.
- The one exception remains with bus transportation. Students will be required to wear masks while being transported on school busses.
****Please note that we can update the mask stance at any time as we continue to listen and follow mandates from the governor and health departments as new information is made available during the pandemic.
We thank everyone so much for helping comply with all the changes that have taken place. Together we can accomplish so much and continue to make Norwayne amazing!

OCTOBER STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Mrs. Murphy
- This is my 18th year.
- Reading to the kids. I am a gr8 reader.
- A boy told me his book was overdue because his brother "sleepwalked" into his room and took it off of his dresser!!
- Repetition is the key to mastery. Stick with it and a little bit each day we improve.
Mr. Miller
I have been teaching in Norwayne for 23 years. I was a student at Norwayne for 13 years as well. That makes a total of 36 years.
- I love seeing the "light bulb" look on a student's face when they learn something new.
- When I taught at the old building in Sterling, we would usually have the doors open when it was hot outside. I remember one time when the neighbor's dog came walking into the classroom. It created quite a bit of excitement.
- Be thankful for the opportunity that you have to get a good education, and always do your best.
Mrs. Eichelberger
- This is my 9th year at Norwayne.
- I love that I get to educate kids through activities that can help improve their health. I love to see their confidence grow, and I love the students' passion and excitement about Physical Education class!
- I loved when the office staff dressed as the Toy Story characters.
- Work hard, exercise often, and be kind and understanding toward others.
NEW Parent Drop Off and Pick Up for 2021-2022
A few important notes for morning drop off:
Our morning drop-off routine is running very smoothly. Thank you to Officer Hartman and the parents for hopping on the double line-up system allowing us to get more cars in the loop and away from Route 3. Please refer to the picture below in regards to the two-lane system. Parents, please be cognizant of the curb we are acquiring some damage as tires grind against the concrete.
- Students being dropped off or riding their bikes will be allowed to enter the building at 8:40 am, as we did last year. They will not be permitted to stand outside and wait for the cafeteria doors to open.
- During the morning drop-off time, when exiting the parking lot, cars will only be allowed to make a right-hand turn. This is something we did last year, and it helped reduce the congestion and improve the flow of traffic.
- We ask that you do not park in the drop-off loop. If you need to park to bring something to the office or walk your child to the door, this needs to occur in the parking spaces. This way, the loop will not become clogged as it is a single-car loop.
- Students are able to exit their cars only if they are parked along the curb. Please do not get out of the car in the grass at this time. Use the crosswalk as the cut-off for now.
- Please make sure to pull all the way up so we can ensure we get as many cars on the curb as possible.
A few important notes for parent pick up:
We would like the parents to know we appreciate your patience in the afternoon as the afternoon pick-up crew works tirelessly to ensure we have a quick, efficient, and above all else safe system in place for the children. We are averaging 70+ cars at the end of the day can you believe that! Parents, please be cognizant of the curb we are acquiring some damage as tires grind against the concrete.
- Pick-up will occur as it has in the past, except for the one-direction loop we will now have.
- We ask parents to remain in their cars as staff will walk students to their cars to ensure safety.
- During pick-up times, cars will only be able to make a right-hand turn when exiting the parking lot. Again this helps with reducing congestion and improving the flow of traffic.
- As you drive by the crosswalk please have your window down to let Mrs. Knight or one of the other workers know who you are there to pick up.
- We appreciate the parents working quickly to help buckle their children.
