HOSA Has Dominant Performances At State, Qualify 9 For Internationals
Howell HOSA-Future Health Professionals traveled to the State Competition this past week and brought home several strong performances. In all nine Howell HOSA members qualified for HOSA Internationals this summer. Congratulations to the follow HOSA members on their great finishes at State HOSA and good luck to those that have qualified for Internationals!
- Nora Stith & Sarah Stott placed 2nd and advanced to HOSA Internationals in Orlando, Florida with their work in Public Health.
- Pranavi Kolouju, Gavandeep Shinger & Jahnavi Pingali placed 1st and advanced to HOSA Internationals in Orlando, Florida.
- Harshavardhan Bollepalli, Bryce Clemons, Harib Mian, & Noah Schultz placed 2nd in HOSA Bowl Team and qualified for HOSA Internationals in Orlando, Florida.
- Jack Stiens, Sarah Ortbal, Sara Stiens, Anna Johannesman placed in the "Top 5" in State HOSA competition in Origional Medical Innovation.
The Howell Limelight Theatre Presents: Snow Angel
The Howell Limelight Theatre is set to present the 2019 production of David Lindsay-Abaire’s play Snow Angel which is set in the town of Deerpoint, Vermont during the biggest blizzard in 107 years. Just as the teenagers begin celebrating a day of no school , their teacher announces a special journal assignment to be completed over the Snow Day. Out of the snow, and the assignment, comes a mysterious girl named Eva. Eva needs help searching for answers but no one is quite sure what the questions are or where she comes from. 15 confused teenagers do their best to help Eva but her story is truly baffling.
Snow Angel is a funny and eerie tale of teen discovery, mischief, and acceptance told through journal entries and character interactions. Come join us and help us to figure out the mystery surrounding Eva.
Evening performances will be Friday, April 5th & Saturday, April 6th, at the FHHS Auditorium, 7001 Highway 94 South, St. Charles. The doors open at 6:30 pm with performances beginning at 7:00 pm each night. A matinee performance will be held on Sunday, April 7th, doors open at 1:30 pm with a performance at 2:00 pm. Tickets are available at the door for $5.

Three Vikings Selected To Attend Missouri Scholars Academy
Three Howell sophomores were selected to attend Missouri Scholars Academy this summer. Natalie Althof, Grace Juan and Ashley Wuennenberg will be representing Francis Howell High School at the 2019 MSA Academy. Founded in 1985, MSA is a highly selective, three-week residential program at the University of Missouri for 330 of Missouri’s most gifted students. MSA provides learning enrichment and personal development opportunities for each scholar. Congratulations to these three young ladies on their achievement!
Howell DECA Members Compete At State Career Development Conference
Students of the Francis Howell High School Chapter of Missouri DECA: An Association of Marketing Students joined a record number of 2000 high school marketing students at the annual state career development conference held March 24-26, 2019 at Crown Center KC, Missouri.
These 14 students will advance to international level of competition at the International DECA Career Development Conference that will be held April 26-May 1 Orlando, Florida.

DECA competitive events are designed to contribute to the development of competencies needed for careers in marketing, management and merchandising, to motivate students to assume responsibility for self-improvement and self-discipline, to assist students in acquiring a realistic self-concept through individual and group activities and to provide visibility for the educational goals and objectives of marketing education. The individual, team, and chapter projects were judged by 120 professionals from the business community.
Through classroom instruction and DECA activities, our members are learning to become savvier in today’s economy and acquiring knowledge to advance their studies in marketing, management and entrepreneurship.
DECA provides an avenue for students to develop essential skills for a successful career and gives them an edge in a competitive job market. DECA’s goal is for students to use these skills as a catalyst for contributing to our economy.
DECA is an international association of high school students studying marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality, and marketing sales and service. More than 180,000 students from the United States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are involved in this organization.

Coach Muench Selected As 2019 Graduation Grand Marshal
This past week Coach Muench was voted the 2019 Graduation Grand Marshal by the senior class. Coach Muench is a highly involved member of the Howell staff and truly defines what it means to be a valuable member of the Howell Family. Coach Muench teaches P.E., coaches football, is involved in our student-athlete strength and conditioning, sponsors Blue & Gold and can be seen at boys basketball, girls basketball and baseball games as an event worker. Coach Muench can also be found around Howell volunteering in many capacities to help out other members of the Howell Family and to make the experience of our high school students the best it can be. His efforts make a huge difference in our students lives both inside & out of the classroom, as well as in our programs. Thank you to Coach Muench for being such a valuable member of the Howell Family. All Vikings appreciate all he does for Howell!
Grantham Named STL Today Athlete Of The Week
Congratulations to Dalton Grantham on being named an STL Today Athlete of the Week! A senior center fielder and pitcher, Grantham is off to a hot start, batting .571 with a .667 slugging percentage and a team-leading eight RBI in seven games. Last week in a 5-4 loss to Summit, he went 2-for-3 with an RBI and then led the Vikings to a 15-4 road win over Hannibal by going 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI. A three-year varsity starter, Grantham earned first-team all-conference, first-team all-district and second-team all-state honors after batting .373 with 17 RBI last season.

Raven Robotics Earns Top 15 Finish
The FHSD First Robotics team of Raven Robotics competed over spring break at the St. Louis Regional competition and the Central Illinois Regional competition. Francis Howell High School student Kendra Minch and Central High School student Stephen Derenski were nominated for the Dean’s List Award. Those having a good grade point average and showing exceptional leadership are nominated by their peers and mentors for this distinguished award.
The St. Louis competition had the team solving many technical issues with the robot and the team placed in the middle of 48 teams present. The Peoria competition was an international competition with teams from Canada and Turkey competing with the 40 teams present. In Peoria the team was very successful and took third place and was the only team remaining undefeated through 8 matches. Saturday had the team battling several technical difficulties and ended the competition in 14th place out of 40 teams.
