Holy Cross Catholic School
From the Desk of Mrs. Wagner
June 5, 2020
Since school has been out for the summer, the work behind the scenes has not stopped. Keeping you informed is a top priority, we have been diligently planning to provide our students with the best Catholic education for the 2020-2021 school year. We have been hard at work assessing the IT infrastructure of the building, formulating a technology plan, revisiting the website, collaborating on designing a new brand that will reflect our vision and mission for Holy Cross. We have been busy interviewing and have two new amazing educators joining us for the next school year.
Miss Gabrielle Asher has accepted our Kindergarten teacher position. She graduated from Benedictine College and already is familiar with our school. She was a student teacher with Mrs. Tubbert last fall and fell in love with our school community. We are so blessed to have her join the team.
Mrs. Tracy Kerth will be joining us as our Math Instructional Coach. She has a wealth of knowledge and has a passion for math education. After collaborating over the past two weeks, I am very excited about the level of expertise she will bring to Holy Cross and our math program. We are so fortunate to have her on our team.
Although Ms. Anderson is not a new hire, she has a new position as our Instructional Technology Coordinator. This program will instruct students on the importance and expectations of Digital Citizenship that align with our Catholic faith. The curriculum will be aligned with the Archdiocesan and ISTE Standards and incorporate a new coding program K-8. The students will become proficient with Google and Apple platforms in order to become proficient in technological skills for their future. This will be a Project Based Learning Community and the students will complete projects using various tools to enhance their skill sets.
Throughout the summer I will update you on developments regarding the impact of the Covid pandemic on the reopening of school. The Archdiocese currently intends that students will be in the building when school opens in August. There are several Archdiocesan task force committees in place and they have been working diligently to design guidance for all of the schools. We are hoping to have a formal document by June 18 from the Archdiocese and have been told the Kansas State Department of Education guidance will be released on July 10. As soon as we receive these documents I will communicate more information.
As our nation is unsettled and we pray for peace, I felt it was important to share a message from Pope Francis, from June 3rd: "Today I join the Church in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and in the entire United States, in praying for the repose of the soul of George Floyd and of all those others who have lost their lives as a result of the sin of racism. Let us pray for the consolation of their grieving families and friends and let us implore the national reconciliation and peace for which we yearn. May Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of America, intercede for all those who work for peace and justice in your land and throughout the world.” "May God bless all of you and your families.” The Archdiocese also requested that we distribute a letter from Archbishop Naumann to all parents in which he addresses the sin of racism and its impact on our society and families.
As we are unsettled in so many ways, I pray that we find peace during these troubled times. As Pope Francis states, it is time for us to rely on our Blessed Mother to intercede for all of us, including our Holy Cross Community, to work towards peace and justice. May you find peace during these summer months. We miss you all. We are in this together and are Holy Cross Strong!
