Elective Class Spotlight
Each week we will highlight one of our new elective classes and let you have an "insider's look" at what's happening in the class.
This week we take a look into Emma Wilbank's Theatrical Make Up Class!
This 9 week elective class was been a welcomed addition to our Fine Arts dept. It provides students with the opportunity to experience two types of theatrical makeup. Special Effects is the first type of theatrical makeup the students learn about. They learn about different techniques, methods, materials, and applications for creating various traumas to their faces/body. Each student creates a working design to follow with the application of their own makeup. When one student shows expertise with a particular style or makeup item then collaboration follows. After practicing to perfect their designs students then create and present their monologues or skits to explain in detail what happened. The students are having a great time learning all the "tricks of the trade". Just wait with this type training we may have some future Oscar winners coming out of DMS!
