District Communication

Gananda Central School District communicates information through a variety of ways to ensure our parents and community are informed. As a reminder, if you are not receiving phone calls, emails, or text messages from the district and you would like to, please contact the public relations office directly at GanandaPR@gananda.org. The contact information that we have on file in the parent portal is what we use to contact you, so if it isn't up to date, you may not receive our communications. You can also receive information on our Facebook page: www.Facebook.com/GanandaSchools and/or our Twitter handle at: @WeAreGananda.

The Chromebooks Are Coming! The Chromebooks Are Coming!

Have you heard? The Chromebooks Are Coming! Gananda Central School District will be providing every student attending classes in grades 3-12 a Chromebook to use for classroom instruction beginning Friday, November 2. Chromebooks are compact laptops that run and store cloud-based applications and data. They are inexpensive, easy to use, and will provide our students with a more personalized learning experience. You will receive much more information about this in the coming weeks. Be sure to watch your email for more news about this exciting program and training sessions for parents!

Rules About Dogs On School Grounds

We love four legged friends but have rules in place to keep everyone safe. As a reminder, dogs are not allowed on school grounds during school events. We will allow dogs to be walked on school grounds during non-school and non-event hours, but they must be on a physical leash and you must clean up after your dog. Our goal is to keep both human and four legged friends safe!

Road to 2020 Construction Updates

The Road to 2020 Capital Improvement Project is well underway. Below is a list of the current progress and challenges:

Track: We will begin laying the new track this week as long as the weather cooperates. This process takes between 5-7 days to complete if the weather is perfect. It is imperative that no one goes on the track during this process. The track can be easily damaged if the work is not complete. Do not go on the track. We will alert the community when it is safe to use the track and field.

Turf Field: We are providing access to the turf field for our student varsity athletes only. This is to allow our athletes practice time for their season. The turf field is not open to the community at this time. This means no member of the community should be on the field or walking their dogs at this time.

Pool: Unfortunately, the pool completion has been pushed back further due to a recent discovery regarding a main pipeline leaving Richard Mann Elementary. A crack has been discovered in the pipeline which is buried approximately 7 feet underground beneath the pool locker rooms. In order to repair this pipeline, the entire elementary school building will need to be shut down. As such, we are waiting for a time period where we will not have students and staff in the building for an extended period of time. At this point, that appears to be Columbus Day weekend, October 6-8, 2018. We will attempt to repair the pipeline during that weekend to limit the disruption for our students as much as possible. Once the pipeline has been repaired, work on the pool locker rooms can resume. It will take approximately 5 weeks from the pipe repair to completion of the locker rooms. At this point, it appears the pool will not be complete until the end of December 2018. We are frustrated with the impact this is having on our student athletes and community members, and are working diligently to find other solutions. We will keep you informed as more information becomes available.

4th and 5th Grade Wing: At this time the computer lab in the 4th and 5th grade wing at the elementary school is delayed due to material installation challenges. Special materials are used in the computer labs to help keep the hardware cool and functioning at its highest level. The materials to be installed require a low humidity level, and unfortunately, the humidity level at this time has been uncooperative. We are waiting for a finalized completion date and will share as soon as it becomes available.

Middle School Locker Rooms: At this time the Middle School Locker rooms will not be complete until approximately October 19. The installation of tiles has stalled production at this point, however, our construction crew is working hard to complete the tile work to get to the final phase of completion.

While some of phase 1 is still being completed, phase 2 is on target. As with any construction project, there are always delays and unforeseeable challenges. We are frustrated with the impact some of these delays are creating for our students and staff, however, our number one priority is their safety. We want to ensure that these projects are completed correctly to provide a safe environment for our current students and the future ones to come.

Please visit the Gananda Website to view upcoming construction projects.

Box Tops for Education

Once again this year the district is participating in the Box Tops for Education program which helps raise money to provide materials that may be needed in our classrooms. If you have a student in the elementary building, please begin sending Box Tops in with them. There are boxes for each grade level located by the Main Office. If your students are not in the elementary school but you would still like to help out, please contact the district's Box Top Coordinator, Meaghan Piccarreto, and she will make arrangements to pick them up from you. Thank you so much for helping us raise money for our students!
