Upcoming Events & Information for Pleasantdale Families
A Note from the Principal's Office
September 9, 2018
Dear PES Families,
It was a great night at the PTO Welcome Back Event. Thank you to the PTO for organizing this event, and thank you to all the families who stopped by. This is a great way to kick off the year as a whole community.
- PES Clubs and Activities Brochure was shared last Friday. This brochure outlines the various opportunities available to our students. Individual teacher sponsors will send home permission and informational slips. This brochure will also be posted on our website for your reference throughout the year.
- Forgotten items are frequently brought in during the school day by parents. These items include homework, water bottles, lunches, iPads, among other items students forget to bring with them to school. Please know that lunches are taken to designated grade level baskets in the lunchroom for students to pick up at lunch, and iPads are delivered to class. Other items are placed in teacher mailboxes. Our goal is to minimize classroom interruptions during the instructional day. Your help reminding students to bring all necessary items is greatly appreciated.
- White Buffalo Playground completion has been delayed again. The Pleasant Dale Park District will let us know when they have an updated completion date. In the meantime, for your safety, the Park District has asked that no one cross the orange construction fence.
Curriculum Update
- As was shared in a previous communication, the District is piloting a Co-Teaching model of instruction. This model provides 2 certified staff members in one class. The teachers share responsibility for instruction and assessment of students, allowing for increased opportunities for students to get feedback from a teacher and have instructional needs met by a certified staff member. A co-teaching pair consists of one general education teacher and one resource teacher.
- Should a student in a non-co-teaching class be identified for resource support, the child will be provided support by a resource teacher. We will continue to meet the needs of all students. The co-teaching model does not restrict access to District resources, rather it streamlines our ability to meet students' needs.
- If you have questions about Co-Teaching, please contact me.
For our students,
Ms. Tomei
Small Group Instruction
Small group instruction allows teachers to provide targeted feedback to students to further their learning. Here Mrs. Halusek uses a Numer Rack to help build math understanding with students.
Learning Through Play
Allowing students time to build social skills including sharing and taking turns, is an important part of developing early learning skills
Growing in our Goals
3rd Graders have planted seeds of learning and set their sights on goals they want to reach this year.
Our Mission: To create a community of inspired learners
Mark your calendar:
Thursday, 9/13
- Grade 1-4 MAP Testing
Friday, 9/14
- Grade 1-4 MAP Testing
Reminders:
- All visitors to PES will be required to provide a State-issued ID in order to gain access to our school. Please make sure you have your ID with you before coming to the school.
- All of School Street is a School Zone which means that all cell phone use is prohibited. This includes hands-free devices.
- For the safety of all, and ease of traffic flow, parents are asked not to exit their vehicle along the Kiss and Go Lane during morning drop off. Students are to exit on the curbside eliminating pedestrian traffic in the passing lane. Parents who wish to assist their child out of the car, are asked to park in the lot and walk them across the lot.
- Preschool parents are welcome to park in the lot when dropping off students. Alternatively, at 9am, when buses have departed PES, parents of preschool students may park in the circle drive area outside the preschool doors to drop off their preschoolers.
