Week of January 4th
All Things EQ Weekly Motto

Virtual Learning
As a reminder, we will be starting the third quarter with 2 weeks of virtual learning on Monday, January 4th at 8:00 am. Students are expected to login to Zoom with their homeroom teacher at the start of the school day. Students will spend roughly an hour in each subject with that subject area teacher. Teachers will provide instruction and independent work time within each hour block. Students can access all zoom links and materials through the class canvas pages. Here is a review of virtual learning expectations with your child:
Have a designated area for your child for virtual learning
Students should be dressed for school each day
Please have cameras turned on
Headphones with a microphone would be helpful if your child is sharing their learning space with others
Students will have various breaks, so please refrain from eating during instruction

Welcome back families! We hope you enjoyed the holiday break with some much needed relaxation and family time and are ready to be back. We hope these two weeks of virtual will be a smooth process for everyone and we are ready to begin the third quarter! This week, our
Essential Question: How can caring for Earth and its living things improve life now and in the future?
We will be using our Into Reading with the story, Parrots Over Puerto Rico in Canvas and practice how to quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text, determine two or more main ideas of a text and explain how they are supported by key details; summarize the text. We will then explain the relationships or interactions between two or more individuals, events, ideas, or concepts in a historical, scientific, or technical text, based on specific information in the text. Students brought home their hard copies of their MyBook, Writers Notebook and ISN's to use, as well as they have online access to all of these resources through Canvas. We will work on Amplify throughout the week as well. Please let us know if you have any questions at all.

Math
Welcome back for 3rd quarter, and hope everyone had a relaxing Winter Break! We are continuing on our journey of learning fractions and are going to begin to look at multiplication and division of fractions. As we transition into home learning, exit tickets will be completed on Canvas and will be the only thing due daily for math. There are concept development videos available if your student needs an "extra helping" of the daily math lesson but these videos are not required if your student attended the online Zoom class. As always, please reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns!

Science
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a very happy and healthy holiday. In science this week we begin a unit on the human body. Our essential question is "What are the basic functions of the bones in our skeleton?". We will be using the FOSS curriculum for this unit. At the beginning of the week we will start to explore the movement of the bones that will lead into attempting to count the bones in our body. Then we will read about the skeletal system as we learn about the structure and function of our bones.

Social Studies
Welcome back to school (Online)! I hope everyone enjoyed their break. In Social Studies we will continue to learn about the Louisiana Purchase and other events and people that helped build the United States. Our essential question this week is: What states were added to the United States through the Louisiana Purchase and when did they become official states? Students will research and organize information about a state.
