SST/ RTI News & Notes
January, 2015
Happy New Year!
Over the break, I found myself jotting down notes, copying links to resources and bookmarking items to share with you. As the list kept growing, I thought instead of sending emails, I would create a newsletter! (Yup, this is what you are reading now). I also wanted to take the opportunity to share many of the great things I see (and hear) you doing in your role! This month, I am highlighting Samantha Fitts at Therrell High School! Be sure to check out the "Spotlight" corner below.
As your RTI/SST/504 Coordinator, I am here to assist you! Please feel free to call, email or even stop by! I also welcome any feedback to help make our work even better! I will end with one of my favorite quotes..."Good, better, best; never let it rest; until your good becomes your better; and your better becomes your best!" This is going to be our best year yet!
Happy New Year!

SST File Audit Reminders
The minutes must include the appropriate information:
- Analysis of progress monitoring data from the last meeting. If initial meeting, analysis of baseline data
- The area of concern
- Impact of intervention (discussion of progress in class and discussion of behavioral changes)
- Next steps - continue intervention? change intervention or procedures around the intervention? conclude SST and begin Tier 2 support? Refer for evaluation?
- Meetings are occurring as needed to monitor progress of student (Many files are showing dates for meetings in which they were never held and weeks have passed).

SST File Clean-up
- You should have an accurate accounting of your active Tier 3 students. At this point, no student should be listed as being in Tier 3 if teacher is not actively implementing interventions and progress monitoring and no meeting has been held (or scheduled for early this month if you had a huge list of students on your campus).
- IEP online has been updated for students who were moved back to Tier 2. In addition, teachers have been informed of intervention resources and progress monitoring that needs to be completed on these students. (Note: Be sure to track progress)
- All active Tier 3 files, have appropriate information inside of them (per audit checklist) both in the green folder and IEP online. This includes appropriate meeting dates, minutes, decisions, areas of concern, interventions, progress monitoring assessment, and progress monitoring data. In addition, progress monitoring data has been attached in IEP online as well.
- You should have an updated SST Management log that shows all students currently in the SST process. It should include meetings held, current interventions being implemented as well as files closed this school year, etc.
- IEP Online should match your SST management log!

Spotlight Corner
From the moment I met Samantha, she had a sharing spirit about her! If anyone needs something, Samantha is the first to respond! At one of the "drop" in meetings held in December, she shared with the high school group one way she supports her teachers with RTI implementation. After an intervention is identified, she provides a copy of the description of the intervention as well as a copy of the progress monitoring assessments for the teacher. The teacher has no excuse now...everything has been provided. She also graphs the progress for the teachers! (Now, we know that it is the teacher's responsibility to do this, but she has found an effective way to build rapport and show support initially as her school is led in the direction of implementing RTI with fidelity. Here is a link to view an example of the items she places in folders for teachers.
