Almost everyone is Christian. 83 percent are Roman Catholics. The official language is Filipino, but still, only 55 percent people speak Filipino as their first language. Mostly English is spoken. The country has more than 170 different languages. Philippines is the 3rd most English speaking country. The people have culture traits of Americans, Chinese, Indonesian, and Indians. Philippines also has a Hispanic influence of Mexico and Spain. Basketball, Mac Donald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut, and KFC are popular. Still, the people have great respect for their elders, family, and their culture
The traditional dance of Philippines is called Tinikling. It is a dance done with bamboo sticks lifting and moving. The Filipinos have Indigenous art, Kut-kut art, and Islamic art. They play music using guitars, flutes, ukelele, violin, trumpets, and drums. They also likes cinema and television. They have their own architecture techniques. They like rice, seafood, and corn. The people try to learn martial arts. They celebrate festivals such as Ati-atihan, Sinulog Festival, Bangus Festival, Pahiyas Festival, Parada ng Lechon, Tuna Festival, Masskara festival, Aliwan Grand Fiesta, et cetera.

June 24, 1571. Legazpi established Manila as the capital city with himself as Governor-General.
October 5, 1762. The British fleet defeated the Spanish warship allowing the British rule the country for two years.
July 7, 1892. At the same day of Rizal’s capture, Andres Bonifacio, Teodoro Plata and Valentin Diaz established the "Katipunan", a revolutionary movement aimed to fight for freedom against Spain.
May 10, 1897. Andres Bonifacio and his brother Procopio were excuted in Mt. Tala, Cavite after an unjust trial headed by General. Mariano Noriel, an associate of Emilio Aguinaldo.
December 15, 1897. Primo de Rivera and Pedro Paterno signed the Truce of Biak-na-Bato allowing a temporary ceasefire between the Spanish and the Filipinos.
May 1, 1898. Manila Bay turned into a massive battle field between United States and Spain. The Americans defeated the Spanish fleet led by Admiral Patricio Montojo.
June 12, 1898. Independence Day
December 7, 1941. The Japanese bombed the Pearl Harbor, a US military base in Hawaii. The Philippines was attacked ten hours after the bombing.
March 14, 1947. The Treaty of General Relations was signed, allowing the US Military Bases to be installed in the Philippines for 99 years.
December 26, 1968. Jose Maria Sison reestablished the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) as a Stalinist-Maoist Political Party.

The voting age for Philippines is 18. People younger than 18 do not have the right to vote. Every citizen has the right to vote. They have the rights to protest against things non-violently. There are many institutions which are set up for preventing crimes in Philippines. Laws are made and the criminals get punished. If there are major cases, the case goes to the court. Education is considered very important and family members sacrifice a lot for their children. There is an educational system which is necessary for K-12. The school starts at a fixed date given by The Department Of Education. The children learn Spanish at school. The Elementary school consists of grades 1 through six. The Secondary school consists of grades after 6th grade. People have rights. They have press freedom, freedom of expression, freedom to travel, and many other rights.

The banking system in Philippines is stable and the stock market was the second best in Asia. The GDP (Purchasing Power Parity) of 2012 was $419.6 billion. The GDP (Official Exchange Rate) was $246.8 billion. The GDP (Per Capita/P.P.P.) was $4,400. The Gross National Saving was 21.3 percent in 2012. 11.8 percent population depends on agriculture for survival, 31.1 percent is on industry, and 57.1 percent on services. 26.5 percent people fall under the poverty line.
