Shout Out
Science Department
This year Chemistry started Mastery concept checks and dumped the completion grade (for 100). I am happy to announce the test scores are up about 10% over last year!! Woohoo!! We are so happy because they are learning through these frequent mastery checks throughout the unit. It is more work upfront for us, but pays off in big dividends. I take no credit...we just listened and changed. Bio takes mastery checks too. Just bragging on the department.- Seawright

Parent Teacher Conference: October 15
After soliciting staff and parent feedback, we will conduct parent-teacher conferences differently this year. All teachers will report to an assigned area in the cafeteria and/or A Hall.
- From 8:15-10:45 parents will be able to walk-in and meet with any available teacher on their child's schedule. Parents will be given 15 minutes to meet with their child's teacher.
- Lunch Break: 11:00-11:45
- 12:00--4:00: Parent conferences are moved to your classroom and by appointment only. Parents will be notified of the format in our next newsletter and you can expect for parents to email you with questions. I recommend you create your appointment schedule by next Wednesday just in case parents email you for your availability in the afternoon. Please schedule your appointments in 15-20 minute intervals.
- For students failing your class, a scripted email will be sent to you and you can forward it to parents. The email will inform parents of the grade their student must earn in the second grading period and semester exam to earn credit for the semester. Each teacher will be required to conduct at least 10 conferences.
- Before the end of the day, every staff member must have updated their teacher website. Mrs. Smith will sending instructions on how to update your page prior to the October 15

Collaboration In Math
I had the pleasure of experiencing the geometry team utilize their pod as a learning and collaboration space. Students were able to work together with classmates and peers from different classes. Mrs. Gumm, Fernandes, and Rashid not only worked with their students but also worked with their colleague's student. It was great to see teachers and students collaborating with and learning from one another.
