1800: The First Black Private School
The first 'black' private school. The government fails to extend education to African Americans, so the founder, Prince Hall, invites black families and starts a private school in his home. In 1808 the school moves to the African Meeting House on Beacon Hill.

1821: First Free High School
The Boston English School provides education in only English. It's curriculum specializes in math, science, logic, and history for professional teaching,

1825: First High School for Girls
The first high school for girls opens in Boston, having 'normal' education. Instead of being taught to do household chores, girls are then taught math, science, history, etc. This school becomes known as Philadelphia High.

1829: First School for The Blind
The Perkins School for the Blind, originally called the New England Asylum for the blind, extends education to disabled students. The school eventually becomes the home of Anne Sullivan and Helen Keller, one of the most famous disabled people in history.

1839: First State School for Teachers
Three women report to a school in Lexington, and are tested before being admitted to the first 'normal school', a state operated teacher training program. A school accepts it's very first woman students.

1840: Anglo American School
The very first Anglo-American school (A religious school) is created in 1840.
Affect: This has influences many more religious and Anglo-American schools to open in the US.

1876: School Support
After the Civil War, the new state constitution of 1876 gives 45 million acres of land for schools.
Affect: If it weren't for the 45 million acres of land, not as many public schools would be here today.

1863: The National Academy of Science
The National Academy of sciences is created by President Lincoln, originally intended for inventions suggested by citizens to aid in the Civil War.
Affect: The National Academy of Sciences hasn't just helped the Civil War in the 1800s- Today, students can still present their projects/conventions.

1870: The First 'Graded Elemtnary School'
Boston Quincy's grammar school, located at 90 Tyler Street, is the first public school which separates students by grade.
Affect: Finally, without this school, there wouldn't be such thing as first grade, second grade, twelfth grade, etc.
