Student & Family Update

Dear MTRS Students and Families:

Wowza! What a great week of learning! Shout-out to our Seniors who presented their Capstone projects for feedback from community members, family members, students, and MTRS staff who sat on the panels - thank you to all who participated. Our Seniors are pretty impressive! Thank you to our Capstone teachers who have mentored, coached, and encouraged our seniors to this point. And, a special thank you to Rachel Hoogstraten for organizing the day. It took a lot of communication, problem-solving, and energy and we all appreciate it.

It's turning chilly and this is a friendly reminder to bundle up so you can enjoy mask breaks outside.

Looking Ahead:

MTRS visits to elementary schools

Over the next several weeks, MTRS staff and students will be making the rounds and visiting 5th and 6th grade classrooms across the district to talk about how they can blaze their trail to success at MTRS!

This week, we kicked-off the visits at Sanderson Academy where current MTRS students Courtney, Erica, and Tanner (who are also Sanderson alumni) talked about what MTRS has to offer (academics, student life, athletics) and how MTRS is preparing them for the future. Our elementary students were given an opportunity to ask candid questions and watched a video with some MTRS highlights.

We're excited to welcome these future trailblazers to MTRS in the years to come and can't WAIT to see them in our halls!

District News

COVID-19 cases on the rise

District COVID-19 caseload numbers are on a rapid upward trend both in Franklin County and the district. Prior to the Thanksgiving break, we saw a spike in cases and continue to see our numbers trending in the wrong direction post break.

With colder weather upon us and an increase in indoor gatherings, the COVID-19 School Planning Task Force reminds residents to PLEASE stay diligent in following the Fab FIVE to help stop the spread. If you haven't yet scheduled your COVID-19 vaccination (for yourself or a child aged 5-11), please consider scheduling your appointment. Trust the facts; get the VAX! Vaccination helps protect you and your family from COVID-19. Don't forget to wear your masks; wash your hands; maintain physical distancing when feasible; and STAY HOME when you are not feeling well. Together, these mitigation efforts will help us bring our caseload numbers down.

If you are planning to gather with those outside your household this winter, use FRCOG's chart below to help assess your risk of catching or spreading COVID-19. LAYER UP with your COVID-19 protections and keep your family (and community) healthy! We need our entire community to work together to bring our caseload numbers back down.

Additionally, the VaxBus is coming back around to Franklin County over the next several weeks. If you still need to have your first round vaccine OR your booster, please sign up. The bus will be returning to Buckland-Shelburne Elementary, Hawlemont, and Sanderson Academy. See flyer here:

COVID-19 pool testing

As a reminder, POOL TESTING is required for athletics, extracurriculars, and before- and after-school programs. ALL information can be found on the district’s COVID-19 Information page at OR by clicking on the “Helpful Links” drop-down from any of the school websites. If you participate in one of the above activities (including coaches and volunteers) -- you MUST sign-up for testing! If you have any questions surrounding the process, procedure, or need additional information, please reach out to our district Nurse Leader Donna Weber at or Superintendent Sheryl Stanton at

Select: Consent Now → Mohawk Trail → (select your school)

For staff, coaches, or anyone over 18 years of age, please select “Sign consent form for yourself.”

For caregivers who need to give consent for their child/ren, please select “Sign consent form for a minor.”

If you are unable to complete the online sign-up/consent, please contact Donna Weber for a paper copy to complete.

Please see this document on when to stay home from school. With the concerns surrounding the Delta variant, it remains important to do the daily screening prior to coming to school every day and staying home if you’re sick. Over the next few days, the district nurses will be updating the COVID-19 section of our family guidance handbook and sharing it with you all.

Also, just another friendly reminder to please complete and send in the annual health form in order for your child to be treated in the health office. If your child has a medication, inhaler, or epipen, the health office will also need a completed medication form from their PCP office. If you are exempting your child from any vaccines, please send in a signed note with the appropriate information.

Currently, there is an issue with a few faxes in the building so please use the front office (413) 625-6652 to send over any necessary paperwork. You can also take a picture or scan and send the paperwork directly to me at this email: Larissa Harrison,
