Kuna families,
It is hard to believe that next month our fifth graders, middle schoolers, and high school students will be making course requests for next school year as they identify classes they are interested in -- band, choir, sports, career technical education classes, classes to earn college credit and more.
We often hear: "I didn't know about that program or opportunity." In the past, the Superintendent's Advisory Council has identified an ongoing need to educate parents about the opportunities available in our schools.
Hopefully, you've seen the flyer (I've shared it below) about the Kuna College & Career Fair on Feb. 27 for parents and their 5th through 12th grade students. In addition to valuable information, the event will include food trucks and prizes. On March 8, there will be an evening event for parents and their incoming freshman student to learn more about our career pathways.
Our work is focused on ensuring our students are #futureready and part of that is equipping families and students with information to help you plan for the future.
We look forward to seeing you at these events.
🕵️ 'If I only knew about ...'
🙋 Would you like to help on teacher/parent communication group?
A common desire expressed by parents is a need for our district to use a single tool for communication. Without a common tool, parents often are asked to download multiple apps. Teachers also find themselves having to manage and maintain contact lists -- and some pay for services out of their own pocket.
Earlier this year, teachers piloted a two-way communication tool called Reach, and it didn't meet their expectations. We are pulling together a committee of teachers and parents. They will begin with identifying expectations for communication and interests and discuss possible solutions. The work will inform which tools best serve teacher and parent communication needs.
🏠 Has your family's housing changed?
If your family has experienced housing changes since the start of the year, your child(ren) may be eligible for support through the McKinney-Vento Assistant Act. Students who may qualify are those who lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence living in situations such as:
- Doubled up with family or a friend
- In a car, park, campground, public space, abandoned building, substandard housing or similar
- In a motel or hotel
- In a house or vehicle of any kind (including a camper) without running water, electricity or heat
- In a shelter or transitional housing
- Unaccompanied youth not living with a parent or legal guardian
- Youth awaiting foster care (first 30 days in foster care)
- Migratory children living in similar living conditions
Please complete this survey to determine if your family qualifies:
