Meet Our School Leadership Team
Primary School Principal: Mr. Cameron
Mr. Cameron is currently the Principal at KIPP North Star Primary. This is his second year at North Star, after serving as Assistant Principal in 2017-18. Prior to joining North Star, he spent two years as the Assistant Principal at KIPP Destiny in Dallas, Texas, leading the second and third grade teams and driving math professional learning. In the first five years of his educational career, he served as a founding kindergarten teacher in Detroit, Michigan, before moving to Henry Ford Academy Elementary School and serving as grade level chair for second grade. Mr. Cameron then taught kindergarten at KIPP Destiny before taking on his administrative role. He received his Bachelor's degree in English at the University of Southampton in the UK and completed a Master's in Educational Leadership at Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 2016. Outside of school, Mr. Cameron enjoys coffee, sports, and spending time with his wife, Elizabeth, and his daughter, Lo.
Lower School Principal: Ms. Waters
Upper School Principal: Mr. Stewart
Mr. Stewart was born in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from North Lawndale College Preparatory Charter High School and attended Carleton College as a Posse Scholar, where he discovered his passion for educational reform. Upon graduation from Carleton College, he returned to Chicago to give back to the community that constructed his servant's conscience. He taught for six years at Urban Prep College Preparatory High School, a public charter school for young men. Corey continued his education by obtaining his Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. As an instructor, he served as a positive model to both his students and colleagues. He assisted his peers in developing critical curricula that would dramatically impact the realities of their students. Leading professional development on classroom management, serving on a curriculum committee, and allowing his colleagues to shadow and observe him implement research-based teaching strategies gave him the desire to take his teaching to the next level. Mr. Stewart now sees himself as someone who wants to put teachers in the best position to be effective. He believes that all students deserve the best teachers, and that all teachers deserve the best training. As a dedicated, committed, and focused practitioner within education, he has worked within the Chicago charter school network as a teacher, advisor, and recruiter, and now seeks to implement that experience in his new position as the Upper School Leader of North Star Academy.
