Math
How can you help?
1.) Have a conversation with your student about their math progress.
2.) Make sure they know their math facts!!! Practice flashcards, get them on Reflex Math daily, this is essential.
3.) Practice, practice, practice!!! Any additional practice at home will help them progress even faster.
ELA
We are currently working on non-fiction point of view. In this unit we compare firsthand accounts and secondhand accounts. We talk about how reliable firsthand is vs secondhand and relate it to our own lives. We will be testing on this concept next week on Friday.
We are reading our next novel on Monday. We will be reading Where the Red Fern Grows. Many of you have read this and I am sure you loved it as much as I did. You also know that it will become emotional as we approach the end. It would be great if you can talk with your child about your experience with the book. This is the wonderful thing about classic novels, parents often enjoyed them in their youth.
Remember to have your child read every night. Their homework expectation is that they do read and meet their AR goal. Second quarter had a huge amount of kids meeting their goals! I am so proud of their efforts. Check in with your child to see how they are doing. I will be sending a progress slip next Friday for you to sign or email that you saw it.
Science
Social Studies
We have begun our next unit on explorers of America. This will be a short unit where we learn about some of the main explorers and what they discovered, where they were from, and what it meant for the countries that claimed land in America.
Our Native American unit went very well. The kids did great with their projects and presentations. I know that project are often a responsibility shared with the parents and I greatly appreciate all your help with this. The kids really seemed to have fun with it!!
