Notes from the Principal
Science Fair
I want to send out a HUGE congratulation to all of our Science Fair contestants. Even if you were not selected to move on to the Regional Science Fair, you all did a wonderful job. The projects looked fantastic and I am so impressed with the effort and hard work that is clearly reflected in each project. We definitely have some budding, superstar scientists!!! Thanks also to all the families who came out to enjoy our annual Science Fair Night. It was so great to celebrate the awesome work of our children as a community.
No School On Friday, February 14th or Monday, February 17th
Just a reminder that Boone students do not have school on February 14th and 17th.
Friday, February 14th will be a teacher professional development day and Boone students will not have class. For all schools in the Crockett Vertical Team, (which includes Crockett HS, Covington MS, and Bedichek MS) this is a staff PD day. However, it is not necessarily a student holiday for all AISD schools. If you have a child attending another AISD school, please check with that individual campus to verify if students attend that day or not.
February 17th, is a district wide Conference Day for elementary schools and PD day for secondary campuses. All students, regardless of campus will not have school that day.
Confused, yet? Please let me know of any questions you may have.
Tis the Season…for colds and flu’s
We are entering that wonderful time of year known to all parents and teachers as the “Time of Great Absences”, or in everyday terms, it is Flu and Cold season. Please make sure you are reminding your children to wash their hands, cover their mouths when coughing, etc. We are beginning to see the tendrils of the flu make its way into Boone. Hopefully, we can focus our diligence on hygiene and limit the effects on our attendance this time around.Save the Date!
Save the date for our Second Annual overnight campus campout at Boone. We are partnering again with Families in Nature and the Boone community to offer nature based activities, a potluck dinner, s'mores around the campfire, camping around the Boone track and much more! Families in Nature will provide camping gear to borrow for families that need it. This camping trip is free and open to all Boone families, but space is limited. Registration will open soon.
Crawford's Connections
Boone Bear Community,
We have almost made it to February! I am really excited for our community to come together this month and celebrate literacy through the Read-A-Thon that Ms. Lightbourn is sponsoring. February is a great month to build our students' ❤️LOVE for reading through finding wonderful opportunities to share our own favorites and passion for great books! On Wednesday, February 5th, we will be celebrating World Read Aloud Day! This will be a campus wide activity where all students, no matter where they are in their day at 9:30, will get to experience a fantastic story. All teachers are working to narrow down their selection to just one of their favorites to share with their students. What a difficult task of just picking ONE!!
Some of my favorites I like to share with students are:
Stellaluna by: Janell Cannon
Tuck Everlasting by: Natalie Babbitt
The One and Only Ivan by: Katherine Applegate
Fish in a Tree by: Lynda Mullaly Hunt
These are just a few of my favorites. My list could go on and on! Everyday students need to hear good stories and dive into their own books they choose. Something to think about:
Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. ~ Joseph Addison
Take care and know we are so grateful for your love and support for our Boone School Community!
