VIETNAM WAR
THAO C. PERIOD 1
Background Information...
The Vietnam War greatly changed America forever. It was the longest war fought in America’s history, lasting from 1955 to 1973. The Vietnam War tarnished America’s self image by becoming the first time in history the United States failed to accomplish its stated war aims, to preserve a separate, independent, noncommunist government. The war also had great effects on the American people. It was the first war ever broadcast on television. The public was able to see what happened on the battlefield. One of the chief effects of the war was the division it caused among the people. Not since the Civil War had America been so divided. This war would have lasting affects on the United States.
Media...
Many media sources were against the U.S. role in Vietnam and held a critical attitude toward the war. The images they captured effected everyone who viewed them. They had the power to leave unforgettable and lasting impressions on an entire nation. One of the most memorable scenes of the war was a South Vietnamese officer firing a pistol into the temple of a smaller man who has his hands tied behind his back. In just one reel of tape the world was able to see a Vietcong being punished by death, over and over again. What is more disturbing is that it was silent footage, and NBC added the sound of a gunshot for effect.

Criticisms
2. America had misjudged the HCM because the US said that HCM is tooled on the orders of the Soviet Union in the war against France, while the United States has no evidence to prove it, but just suppose. On the other hand, we know that Hu has written eight letters to the President and the Secretary of State that the content is only requested US support for the independence spirit new recall of Vietnam, but the US did not answer and take actions to push him toward the Communist Ho when Ho has no other choice but to carry out the struggle for independence and national unity.
