Background Information...

The Vietnam War greatly changed America forever. It was the longest war fought in America’s history, lasting from 1955 to 1973. The Vietnam War tarnished America’s self image by becoming the first time in history the United States failed to accomplish its stated war aims, to preserve a separate, independent, noncommunist government. The war also had great effects on the American people. It was the first war ever broadcast on television. The public was able to see what happened on the battlefield. One of the chief effects of the war was the division it caused among the people. Not since the Civil War had America been so divided. This war would have lasting affects on the United States.

Many media sources were against the U.S. role in Vietnam and held a critical attitude toward the war. The images they captured effected everyone who viewed them. They had the power to leave unforgettable and lasting impressions on an entire nation. One of the most memorable scenes of the war was a South Vietnamese officer firing a pistol into the temple of a smaller man who has his hands tied behind his back. In just one reel of tape the world was able to see a Vietcong being punished by death, over and over again. What is more disturbing is that it was silent footage, and NBC added the sound of a gunshot for effect.

Viet Cong Mines Kill 54, Including Four Children. (The above photos taken by Vietnamese Information Service Photographer) SAIGON, FEB. 14 -- Fifty-four Vietnamese civilians, including four children, were killed and 18 wounded by three Viet Cong mines buried in a road in Phu Yen province. Mining of the road was in retaliation for an Allied operation guarding harvesting of the rice crop. The area has had to import 600 tons of rice monthly because the Viet Cong controlled the major portion of the crop. The first explosion, with left a three-meter crater in the road and threw the large bus into a canal, killed 27 farmers on their way to work in fields near Tuy Hoa. Eleven others were injured. A three-wheel bus, loaded with men, women, and children, touched off the second mine with killed 20 and wounded seven. Another three-wheel bus set off the third mine, which killed 7. It was the most serious incident involving mines since early 1964 when 22 Vietnamese women and children were killed when their bus struck a mine planted by the Viet Cong. The incident typifies the murder and pillage by which the Viet Cong are terrorizing South Viet Nam. Between 1962 and mid 1965, according to figures released by the International Control Commission, at least 54,235 civilians in the South have been killed, wounded, or kidnapped.

1. Americans really are not interested in helping Vietnam, all the self-determination of the US actions in Vietnam just to serve the interests and political direction of America. Therefore, the US has decided unilaterally to help France every weapon, from aircraft, armored vehicles, artillery guns to small, up to 80% of total military expenses in the background machinations reestablished capital French households in Vietnam militarily. Nobody can say is helping re-establish French colonial rule in Vietnam is to help the people of Vietnam.

2. America had misjudged the HCM because the US said that HCM is tooled on the orders of the Soviet Union in the war against France, while the United States has no evidence to prove it, but just suppose. On the other hand, we know that Hu has written eight letters to the President and the Secretary of State that the content is only requested US support for the independence spirit new recall of Vietnam, but the US did not answer and take actions to push him toward the Communist Ho when Ho has no other choice but to carry out the struggle for independence and national unity.
