Put First Things First
Advice that appears to be so easy. Setting priorities actually is very easy; it is maintaining the focus on those priorities that is difficult. The picture below shows the 4 quadrants of Important and Urgent. Quadrants 1 & 2 is where we should focus, sadly Quadrants 3 & 4 sometimes win out.
Quadrant 3 often causes multiple distractions and create the illusion of importance. Last week we discussed the importance of setting goals. Mastering Habit 3 means we must put aside the unimportant and non-urgent distractors and stay the course. Often these distractors are the reason that our goals will not be reached.
The video below is one of my favorite. All of us allow doubt and distractions to keep us from our potential and our goals. I firmly believe if we could use a blindfold to keep out the distractions; we could accomplish anything.
