ISASP State Test Results Coming Soon to Families
In spring 2019, West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) students in grades 3-11 took the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) for the first time. The new state test replaces the former Iowa Assessments. Students in grades 3-11 (in spring 2019) took the English language arts and math tests, and students in grades 5, 8, and 10 also took the science test.
Schools will send ISASP results home with students the week of Nov. 18.
Valley Volleyball in State Tournament
The Valley High School varsity volleyball team beat Waterloo West 3-1 on Monday, Nov. 4, in a regional final match at Coldiron Fieldhouse.
This year’s state tournament is Nov. 12-15 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids. The Tigers will try to capture their first state volleyball title in school history.
WDMCS School Board Election Results
School Board elections were held Tuesday, Nov. 5, throughout the state of Iowa.
In the West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS), four seats were open and six candidates campaigned for election. Unofficial election returns show Jill Caton Johnson, Ph.D., Liz Cox, Lonnette Dafney, and Jeff Hicks the winners of the election.
The new Board members will be sworn in at the annual/organization meeting on Monday, Nov. 25.

Valley Junction Free Medical Clinic
The Valley Junction Free Medical Clinic is open on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. This clinic provides basic medical care and management of chronic medical conditions to uninsured or under-insured individuals; all on-site services are provided free of charge. The third Tuesday of each month is an orthopedic clinic.
