Principal's Message
Dear Lawton Families,
We officially finished our first week of school for the 2020-2021 school year. I am so proud of all our teachers, staff, and students for their efforts and commitment to teaching and learning in a virtual environment! This first week focused on connecting as a community and building relationships with our teams. We learned so much from this first week and recognize that as things unfold we will need to continue being patient and flexible.
Classroom teachers emailed families their classroom Zoom links for the week, students will continue to access learning through video conferencing on Zoom. This week teachers will slowly introduce using Schoology so that students are ready for launch next week.
This week Special Area Teachers (Art, PE, Music, PLTW, Theater, World Language, and Library) will enter your child's virtual meetings for a Meet & Greet activity. So be prepared to see some new faces joining in on those sessions.
IMPORTANT: Logging into Schoology has been delayed until September 21st. This is different than stated previously. Last Friday, Lawton sent letters home through US Mail service with QR badges for logging in at the start of week 3.
Young 5s, Kindergarten and 1st grade students will have two QR codes in their letter.
- Clever - The Purple Clever badge assists with access to various apps.
- Schoology - The Goldenrod Schoology badge assists with access to Schoology via shortcut on home screen.
2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th will have one QR code.
- Clever - The Purple Clever badge assists with logging in to your Chromebook. After logging into your Chromebook, all other resources are available automatically. Schoology is a shortcut icon at the bottom. Clever is an extension at the top of their browser.
When you receive the QR code(s), please tell your child’s teacher. They are keeping track of who has their codes and who does not. Try to keep these some where students can access easily. If you lose a badge, please contact your child's teacher.
Thank you families for helping students to feel safe, supported, and comfortable during their learning. We appreciate all you are doing to support our Lawton Leopards. See you Monday morning for the beginning of Week 2.
Kindly,
Rose Marie Callahan
Monday, September 14: Full Day Instruction Begins for Everyone
All students begin full daily instruction on Monday, September 14. Each day begins with a classroom Morning Meeting at 8:10am. You can find the sample daily schedule here.
This is a general overview of the day. Detailed schedules will be provided by classroom teachers with more information about exact times that students will be synchronous and asynchronous once they are developed. The first week of full day instruction will include a schedule of special classes (Art, Vocal Music, PE, PLTW and World Language/Instrumental Music-5th grade only).
When it comes to using the chat box, at times teachers may turn this option off or on depending on their lesson. Please be sure your child is aware that if they private message another student, while not visible at the time, ALL MESSAGES ARE available to the teacher (or host) at the end of the session. Staff and families will work together to help students use chat for appropriate, safe, and respectful comments.
