What Have We Been Up To?
Turn up the Pink & Purple: A very special thank you to our NY Edge Colleagues for hosting our Pink and Purple day in honor or Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness!
October POWER Celebration: This week students had a blast as we honored and celebrated their excellence during our monthly POWER Celebrations. Students received recognition for attendance, our top POWER point earners, and highest performing POWER classes. We also took a moment to thank our teachers who have been acknowledging our students' POWER throughout the month.
Congratulations to our NBE Flag Football Team on ANOTHER win on Thursday!
No Tricks Just Treats:
NBE Policies
Arrival: Student arrival begins at 8:15 am daily. Students must be health screened and scanned daily and so we ask that students arrive as early as possible. Homeroom begins at 8:40 am. To expedite the arrival process your child can complete the daily health screening on their phone and show a staff member their clearance upon arrival. Students who complete this task can skip the screening line and head directly into the school. To access the daily health screening please visit http://healthscreening.schools.nyc
Attendance: We all know that attendance is directly connected to your child's academic success, and so we want your child here every day! Our goal for the 2021-22 school year is for our attendance to hit an average of 92% for the school year. This means that we expect all of our students to come to school with regularity. Students who are absent each day will receive a phone call, text or email to their loved ones letting them know they did not attend school, and encouraging them to attend. If your child must be absent, we ask that you email us at attendance@northbronxpower.org, so that we can have record of knowing that you planned for your child's absence. This will help us also to streamline outreach. Any student who has lower than 90% attendance (18+ days) is considered chronically absent. For our full attendance policy, please follow this link
Uniform: Students should arrive in uniform each day. This consists of an NBE polo or designated t-shirt. Students attending after-school with NY Edge can also wear NY Edge swag as their uniform. Families have the option to choose what their child will wear as bottoms, however jeans should not have tears and skirts should not be higher than knee length.
POWER Matrix: As a community we use our POWER Matrix as a tool to empower our students to demonstrate daily expected behaviors. Students receive points through our PBIS rewards account, which can be used to sign-up for special events, and purchase items in our PBIS store. Both students and families can track their points using an app offered by PBIS rewards. To download the app search "PBIS Rewards Student" or PBIS Rewards Parent".
NBE Family Handbook: Please check out our family handbook for a complete guide to daily expectations at NBE

Reminders related to COVID-19
Random Testing: All NYC public schools participate in weekly random COVID testing of 10% of the school population. The purpose of this testing is to continuously monitor staff and students as it relates to COVID in order to prevent spread across the community. We ask that all members of the community consent to testing to ensure our community is getting the most accurate data representing our school. In order to provide consent, you can go your NYC Schools Account and complete the consent online, or complete this form and return it to the school.
For more information about testing in NYC Schools, please visit this link
Families Entering the School: Please be advised that all families and visitors to the community are required to be vaccinated and be able to show proof of vaccination in order to enter the school building. Any family member who is unable to show proof of vaccination will be supported from the front lobby or recommended to meet with staff via zoom. An exception to this rule will be at the discretion of an administrator only in the event of an emergency or if a student is in crisis.
