From the Desk of the Directors
In this newsletter please find important information regarding the Coronavirus. Please see attachments. It is important to be aware of the virus and best practices for addressing and preventing it without causing panic.
In this newsletter you will also find an attached letter regarding hate speech. With changing societal norms we feel it is important to remind everyone of the expectations and commitment of being a Chatfield School partner. Chatfield School will not tolerate negative behaviors towards others based on ability, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, political view, or social economic standing. We want everyone to be reminded that Chatfield is a place for all learners.
March is Reading Month! We are excited to share our theme of "Share a book with a friend!" Our focus is on the joy of reading and the importance of being a good friend. Please read your child's homeroom newsletter for details.
This is the time of year when we begin to think about the next school year. We do not anticipate many openings next year for enrollment, but we would appreciate it if you would share enrollment details with friends and neighbors. Please see additional information about sibling enrollment in this newsletter. Registration for the Chatfield lottery is due to the school office by April 1, 2020. The form can be found on the school website under enrollment. The greatest compliment you can share with the Chatfield staff is the courtesy of a positive referral to another family.

Maple Syrup Extravaganza - Saturday, March 21 11am-2pm
Maple syrup season is here for Chatfield students. Tapping trees, processing firewood, hauling buckets of sap, filtering and canning the finished syrup have all become part of the school day during this busy spring season. The students at Chatfield are hosting a maple syrup open house Saturday, March 21. This program will be at the Willows Ecology Center at Chatfield from 11am-2pm. Participants can see the evaporator in action, learn how to identify and tap a maple tree, take a tour of the sugarbush, learn about historical sugar production by Native Americans, and cut firewood with a crosscut saw. Students will be offering samples of fresh syrup with French toast and waffles. This event is free and open to the public. Students will be selling their homemade Maple syrup! Additional highlights include a chance to learn about other onsite agricultural projects including aquaculture, hoophouse season extension for the school salad bar, and mushroom farming.

KIds Heart Challenge
On Friday, we kicked off our Kids Heart Challenge event here at Chatfield, and we need YOUR help. When 50% of our kids take a heart healthy challenge online, our school will earn an additional $500 in PE equipment.
Go to www.heart.org/KHC and find our school to register for the Kids Heart Challenge event. You and your child can choose a heart healthy challenge and then your child will earn a FREE wristband tomorrow at school.
Will you take the challenge and help? Deadline to take the challenge is March 27th.
Thank you for your support!
P.I.E. Box Tops - Important Update
We know the program has been through a lot of changes, but we’re still collecting box tops and working out ways to have grade level rewards… but until then we have school-wide prizes and incentives!
When we reach 1,000 box tops we will have popsicles at school,
1300 will be snow cones for everyone,
and 1800 will be 15 minute break for each grade level… at the teacher’s choice (gym time/ extra recess, etc.).
We are already very close to 1000! Remember each box top earned is 10 cents cash for the school!
Both paper and digital box tops are accepted!

HERE IT COMES: THE P.I.E. UN-Fundraiser! Please support!
I really don't want to awkwardly ask my friends, family and coworkers AGAIN if they want to buy more wrapping paper, candy or cookie dough. I don't really want to let children wash my car and then have to go wash it again myself. I don't even bake for my family, so I don't really wantto bake for a fundraiser. I don't want to walk, swim or run in any activity that has the word 'thon' in it.
We're right there with you! This year, PIE is hoping to raise only the amount of money that we plan to spend this year, and then throw an even bigger and better bike rodeo next year to fuel two year's worth of projects again. In order to do this, we decided the best way to maintain our account balance would be to do an un-fundraiser... This would be in lieu of sending students home with the task of selling door to door, collecting money and delivering goods. Please help us avoid that by supporting PIE with your donation, and helping us achieve our goals to support our students and faculty.
There is not an official "due date" on this un-fundraiser. Some families may wish to send their donation in right away. Others may choose to wait until after the holidays. However, you decide, please decide to participate! We would appreciate all donations made by March or April. Donations from other families members like grandparents are also accepted. A thank you letter for tax purposes will be provided.
Please see the flyer below for details on how to make your contribution to the UN-fundraiser. Thank you!
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS ONLY FOR PIE, AND DOES NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF FUNDRAISERS FOR BAND AND / OR MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASS TRIPS.
