San Diego County Library
The San Diego County Library has made its digital and audio books available to thousands of local students throughout the county.
Students at Vista USD, using just their students IDs, may check out the libraryβs collection of age-appropriate digital materials via Sora, an app used by school districts.
County Library Director Migell Acosta said the collaboration will give students a lot more to read, whether itβs to borrow educational materials or books at their own leisure.
From the Librarian
Seniors are to have all items returned to the Library/Annex on their last day of school, June 2. They can begin returning any items they are no longer using. Emails were sent to each senior listing what they have checked out, and any fines that need to be cleared. Graduating seniors with outstanding items on June 3 will have their diploma pulled, and transcripts held. They will be able to clear June 9-17 and pick up their diploma at that time.
9th-11th graders can keep Chromebooks and chargers only. All books, hotspots, calculators must be returned and fines cleared by June 10. Registration could be delayed if they wait until August to return items.
Students needing any of these items for summer school, can check them out during the first week of summer school from 7:30-8:30 a.m.

Chromebook prices (up to $480) and the cost of repairs (up to $150 for a broken screen) have both increased as newer models are purchased, and the "insurance" for the 21/22 school year ends on June 30. VUSD offers a Mobile Device Cost Replacement Plan [MDCPP] which protects against accidental damage and theft/loss for up to two incidents per school year. This covers the Chromebook only, not the adapter, wifi hotspot, etc. The Chromebook insurance for 22/23 can now be purchased. The cost is still $20. For more information and to purchase, see the MDCPP information flyer in English or en Espanol.

Community Forum Follow-up
We would like to thank all of the parents who have attended our Community Forums. Your input is extremely essential in cultivating an understanding of how we can best serve our students. Our goal is to close the feedback loop so that you know what decisions are being made at your student's school. Through our conversations and the information we receive we can provide these directly to VHS Action Groups and help facilitate future action.
*Our next Community Forum is May 18th at 6pm in the VHS Library*

The Importance of Community Engagement
The work we do as Community Liaisons is built on interactive methods that bridge communication between our school and the community. Our culturally rich experiences serve as our foundation for helping our students and their parents in a safe and loving environment. Based on the demographics of our community, Spanish is the home language for many of our families and for this reason we provide bilingual support while also acknowledging and honoring all languages, backgrounds, and narratives. We assist in facilitating families with access to communication and resources. In our mission, we strive to make our greatest efforts to preserve our connections and encourage learning and education for both our students and their families. -Dalia R. Hipolito Martinez
