Message from our Principal
I would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to the Stanley Avenue School Community for your continued support and cooperation during Term 3. With the uncertainty around Covid- 19, it has made for a challenging time. As a teaching team, we endeavoured to provide the best opportunities for your children. Our fantastic students have continued to have many exciting events this term postponed or cancelled much to their disappointment. I have been blown away by how they have bounced back strongly and refocused successfully on school life. Whilst a lot of the decisions were made at regional or national level, as a Board of Trustees, we have had to make some tough decisions around certain events. At all times the students' health and safety was and is our first priority. Let’s hope we can enjoy a relatively normal Term 4 Schedule.
I wish you and your family/ whānau a safe and happy holiday period.
Ngā mihi nui,
John Byers

Well done Boys. You have had an outstanding season. We are very proud of you all!
Stanley Avenue School Speech finals
Our 11 finalists (unfortunately Jake Andersen was absent) delivered well-rehearsed speeches about their chosen topics varying from Trees to Centipedes, Introverts to Minecraft and Why you shouldn't vape to a Day in the life of a 10-year-old boy, in front of the other 10 finalists, Mr Byers and Mrs Meyler and our wonderful judges, Mr Spencer, Mrs O'Connor and Miss Forrest. Thank you to Rita Sophorn and Chloe Forsman for their help on the day as MC and Photographer.
Delivering a speech is a very nerve-racking experience and it takes courage to speak in public, so we congratulate all our finalists on a job well done.
We are extremely excited to announce that the winners of each year group are as follows:
Year 6 1st Jack Masters, 2nd Xavier Van Kuijk, 3rd Oceane Opie
Year 7 1st Trinity Lawrence, 2nd Wynn Williams, 3rd Gaebriel Gamble
Year 8 1st Imogen Clewlow, 2nd Casey Masters, 3rd Reeve Grant
Congratulations to Imogen Clewlow, who is the winner of the McLeod Cup for Excellence in Public Speaking. Imogen spoke very passionately about Indoor Plants and has given everyone a lot to think about.
Thank you to our judges for being a part of our 2021 speech competition. It is a very difficult job and we appreciate your time and the thoughtfulness and careful consideration that it takes to judge speeches.
To see all of our wonderful speeches, please visit the school Facebook page.
Congratulations
Touch Managers and Referees Needed
We have had a massive response from our boys and girls of all ages wanting to play touch this summer season. This year we will be fielding nine teams to incorporate 100 players!!! Whilst this is a great turnout we are desperately short of the Managers and Referees. Please note the managing of the teams will only involve coordinating game information to team members and running subs during the games. Parents on the sideline may also be able to assist with this.
Currently we need the following:
Managers
Under 13’s: one
Under 9’s: two
Under 7’s: two
Referees
Under 11’s: one
Under 9’s: one
Under 7’s: one
Waihou Rugby will be running refereeing sessions prior to the start of the tournament. If you are willing to manage or referee a team please contact John Byers at john.byers@stanleyave.school.nz
Thank you for your support in order to get all students playing touch this year.
Thank you
John Byers
