Lead Learner Highlights -
Dear KP Families,
I can’t believe we are three weeks away from the end of the quarter. Please check-in with your child about their progress in their classes and making a plan for continued success or improvement. Our official conference days will be November 19, 20, and 21. This is an opportunity for students to take center stage in discussing their progress and their goals moving forward. Team leaders and conference advisors will be reaching out to send out invitations for our fall conferences which are student-led in the next couple of weeks. If you have not received team contact by November 8th, be sure to check your emails, phone messages and/or reach out to your child's advisory teacher to schedule a mutually agreeable time. Please see the button below for information regarding our student-led conference format.
Almost all of our clubs are up and running. We hope that your child has found something of interest to join. If your child is not involved in something, please review the intramural and after-school activities offerings and encourage them to try something or share an idea with their teacher (see below). One thing you can do as a family is play together. It would be great to see families at our PE Family Fun Night on Thursday, October 24 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Be the ONE to be there.
This month we are ending National Hispanic Heritage Month and focusing on Bully Prevention Month and acknowledging Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While I forgot to take pictures, it was wonderful to see so many students wearing blue in recognition of World Day of Bullying Prevention™. See below for our next color dress days along with other events including ski club and squash.

What are the color days all about?
About Unity Day – Wednesday, October 23, 2019
Together against bullying. UNITED for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.
Make it ORANGE and make it end! What are your true colors when it comes to showing that you believe that all youth should be safe from bullying? Come together in one giant ORANGE message of hope and support, WEAR AND SHARE ORANGE to color our nation, and even the world, visibly showing that our society believes that no child should ever experience bullying.
“ORANGE provides a powerful, visually compelling expression of solidarity,” said Paula Goldberg, Executive Director of PACER Center. “Whether it’s hundreds of individuals at a school wearing ORANGE, store owners offering ORANGE products, or a community changing a landmark to ORANGE, the vibrant statement becomes a conversation starter, sending the supportive, universal message that bullying is never acceptable behavior.”
Be sure to check out the “Unity Day Guide” a colorful, informative 20-page comprehensive overview of important things to know
Real Kids Wear Pink - October 25, 2019
Mothers, fathers, aunts, grandmas, and friends – nearly every one of us knows someone who has been impacted by breast cancer. But can kids really make a difference in fighting this disease? YES!
Real Kids Wear Pink brings together schools, sports teams, clubs, and organizations and gives kids a chance to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. Launched in 2017 in Albany, NY, the Real Kids movement has been helping kids get involved in the fight against breast cancer, by raising funds and awareness – and by wearing PINK on Friday, October 25 – the official 2019 Real Kids Wear Pink Day!

"Public Act 16-189
We believe that it is vital for all students in West Hartford Public Schools to be able to efficiently and effectively use digital tools that empower them in all phases of the learning process, including research, problem solving, content creation, communication, and collaboration. We also believe that we must be committed at all times to protecting students' privacy and providing them with a powerful and safe educational experience. To that end, the West Hartford Public Schools follow the legal requirements of Public Act 16-189 to promote the safety and security of all students and staff.
In compliance with Connecticut State Law, we update online programs used within the district that house student data. The programs may be used district-wide, in a very small number of classrooms, or with individual students. The list will be updated each time the district enters into a new contract where student data is housed. For more information on the specifics of Public Act 16-189 and updates of vendor agreements, visit www.whps.org/pa189."
