Mrs. King's Kindergarten
Kindergarten has finished reading, Midnight on the Moon. The children were presented with a problem: Astronaut Peanut is on the moon. There are 3 problems Peanut is having. Her food floats away. Art Room News, From Ms. Middleton:
Second Graders Explore Georgia O’Keefe
We read the book Georgia in Hawaii, which tells of the time when the artist was hired by Dole Pineapples to paint a pineapple. She ended up painting flowers all over the island of Hawaii which served as inspiration for her many large-scale flower paintings. They then made thumb-nail sketches of three flowers. Their favorite they enlarged into a large-scale painting. We talked about how color, form and scale were important aspects of her work. The idea for this flower project was to complement their pollinator unit.
Mark Rothko and Color Theory
First graders have been learning all about color theory. We started by reading the book The Day the Crayons Quit. We learned about primary colors, and secondary colors and learned about making pastels. We then read the book Mixed, a gift from Ms. Flynn, which led us to mixing colors and using the colors to create a color wheel and flowers. Lastly we learned about artist Mark Rothko and his famous color field paintings. The students made their own color field paintings using either warm or cool colors.

Community News:
Emergency Broadband Internet Assistance
This morning, the FCC announced that on May 12, 2021, eligible households will be able to apply for the Emergency Broadband Benefit.
In announcing the official launch date, Acting Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel stated:
“Families in every corner of the country have been struggling to get online throughout this pandemic. For those families, we now say help is around the corner. In less than two weeks, we will have a new way for disconnected Americans to access the internet to carry out their day-to-day life, so they can reach the virtual classroom, take advantage of telehealth, and seek new employment opportunities.”
Beginning on May 12 households can apply in three ways:
1. Contact your preferred participating broadband provider directly to learn about their application process.
2. Go to GetEmergencyBroadband.org to apply online and to find participating providers near you.
3. Call 833-511-0311 for a mail-in application, and return it along with proof of eligibility to: Emergency Broadband Support Center
P.O. Box 7081
London, KY 40742
Materials that partners can use to help promote the Emergency Broadband Benefit to the communities they serve will be available soon on www.fcc.gov/emergency-broadband-benefit-outreach-toolkit.
Earlier this week the FCC hosted a webinar that provided an overview of the benefit, eligibility criteria, how to apply, and the FCC’s partner toolkit materials. If you missed the event live, a recording can be viewed online.
