DECEMBER 2021
PTO PURPOSE
The Emmott Elementary PTO meets on a regular basis. The organization funds cultural arts activities and field trips, organizes volunteers, sponsors various student events, and conducts fund-raisers, which have provided technology, landscaping, books, and playground equipment.

MEETING MINUTES
11/3/21
Amanda Fong opened the meeting at 6:03 pm. The meeting was conducted via ZOOM and in person.
The October meeting minutes were reviewed. Corrections were noted. Jamie Drew made a motion to approve the minutes with corrections. Amanda Fong seconded the motion. The minutes were approved with corrections.
Staff Liaison: Melissa Robinson
· The staff enjoyed the Halloween gift from PTO.
· The staff doesn’t want to burden PTO with reimbursements.
· PTO would like for the teachers to accept reimbursements because teachers can buy incentives and learning materials for our children.
President’s Report: Amanda Fong (subbing for Sheila Hutchins)
· There will be no Veteran’s Day program this year.
· Do we want the Spirit Store to be open during Book Fair night on 11/16?
· The Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe in December has been approved. We need volunteers to run it. The date is to be determined.
· “Breakfast with Santa” is still in the planning stage. The date is December 4th, 8:30 or 9:00.
· We will need to set up the night before.
· A sign-up sheet for donations needs to be created as well as a volunteer sign-up.
· We may serve individually wrapped refreshments, possibly from Taco Cabana.
· We need to find someone willing to play Santa.
· The budget is $300.00. We already have a lot of decorations.
· PTO members voted to either have a continental breakfast or have members cook at the event. The members in attendance at the meeting voted to have a continental breakfast.
· Coordinators will be Vanesha Wilcox, Tammy Vo and Anikha Singh.
· The Mother & Son dance coordinated by Rose Caston and Amanda Fong went over budget, but the decorations and other items purchased can be used for upcoming events. The Mother & Son dance will have a GLOW theme. PTO may employ a Taco truck for this event, but this has not been confirmed at this time. Sheila Hutchins’ daughter, Arianna, has recruited volunteers from the Cy-Ridge HS Interact group to volunteer at the event. These students will not handle any money.
Treasurer’s Report: Stacie Biggs
· Stacie has created a spreadsheet that will be continuous through the year. Stacie explained that the information on the spreadsheet matches the information in the checkbook.
· The Spirit Store is doing really well. PTO earned $500+ at the Spirit Store on Friday 10/29. We have a lot of inventory. If anyone finds items for the Spirit Store at bargain prices, turn in the receipt to Stacie.
· We pay 8.25% taxes each quarter. We are allowed 2 tax free events each year. The Dance Night will be one of them.
· Only 3 teachers turned in receipts for reimbursement. PTO may give teachers gift cards this year.
· We have a Membership income category, but no expenditure category. Key tags for members who join were paid for with Membership funds.
· Sheila Hutchins made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Jamie Drew seconded the motion. The Treasurer’s Report was approved.
Box Tops: Priscilla Tilton
· PTO earned $7.00 in Box Tops Clips by the November 1st deadline. As of 11/3/21, we are $36.10 away from earning $3,000.00 by playing the “Unlock Brighter Futures” game. New codes will be available from 11/18-11/30. The game ends 11/30.
· Beginning December 1, 2021, the class that earns the most through Box Tops scans or clips will win a party and their teacher will earn a prize. This will be a monthly contest.
Membership: Melissa Buenrostro
· Mrs. Tompkins class won the Membership contest. Her class will get a party.
· 136 families have joined PTO so far with $767.00 in dues collected.
· PTO is still accepting new members.
Fundraising: Rose Caston
· Spirit Night at Dairy Queen was a success. We earned 10% of the revenue from the night. We will be able to have a Spirit Night with DQ every other month.
· The Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night is next.
· If you purchase something for the Spirit Store to sell, make sure the cost is low enough for PTO to make money, too.
· Should we open the Spirit Store on Thursday instead of Friday?
· We will open the Spirit Store on Thursday, December 9th because of the Christmas luncheon on Friday, December 10th.
· We can open the store on the Thursdays before each teacher workday.(1/13, 2/17,4/14,and May TBD)
Nature Trails: Amanda Fong
· Training dates for the Nature Trails field trips are on the Sign-Up genius.
· Amanda explained the demos.
· There is an additional training on Monday, Nov. 8th on Shaft Rd. behind Millsap Elementary.
Staff Appreciation: Stacie Biggs
· The staff received “Bugs and Kisses” in October.
· Does anyone have ideas for November?
· The October delivery of Sonic drinks was very chaotic.
· Stacie will redo this appreciation gift, but do it one grade level at a time.
VIPS: Jamie Drew
· Volunteers are needed for Hearing and Vision screening. Volunteers will take height and weight. It will be all day. Lunch will be provided. Volunteers can sign up for one, two or more hours. A Sign-Up genius will be sent out next week.
· Set up for the Mother & Son dance will be from 3:30-6:30 on Friday, November 5th. Jamie will resend the Sign-Up genius for set-up and clean-up.
Upcoming Events: Amanda Fong
· The 5th grade Memory Book is progress. The artwork cover will be voted on by 5th grade students on Friday, 11/15.
· Holiday ornaments will need to be prepared. Jamie Drew will organize volunteers for this project. Christmas cards are cut out. The student’s photo will be glued on to the cut out and labeled. A ribbon will be attached to the ornament so the students can hang it on their tree.
· Stacie ordered grade level appropriate books as gifts to the students from the PTO. Each of these books will need to be wrapped.
· Winter parties will be December 17th. The students will receive a “party in a bag”. There will be one volunteer assigned to each class. More details TBA at the next PTO meeting.
· The staff Holiday Luncheon will be December 10th. The library will need to be decorated. More information to come.
With no further business to discuss, Sheila Hutchins made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Tammy seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 7:42pm.
