Readers are Leaders
As we begin our 3rd week of book circulation and the excitement of reading is building we will focus on making good book choices by utilizing I PICK (Purpose, Interest, Comprehension, Know). Our goal is help students take ownership in their reading choices and to develop their love for reading and life long learning.
Readers Try On Books
This week our lesson will include shoes as a metaphor for for finding books. We will review how and why readers choose books through our discussion and activities with the shoes.
Open Circulation
Beginning Monday open circulation is available everyday for students from 8:40 am - 9:05 am. Teachers have 4 open circulation passes located in their mailboxes. Students may return books and choose new books during this time.
Junior Librarians
Junior Librarian applications are available to any 4th and 5th grade student that would like to take on a leadership role in The Hub. Junior Librarians assist with open circulation in the mornings, reshelving books, creating book displays and pulling books for teachers. If you have students that are interested please have them pick up an application in The Hub.
Why reading is magic...
“What an astonishing thing a book is. It's a flat object made from a tree with flexible parts on which are imprinted lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you're inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic."
