Parents,
Since today is Veteran’s Day, I thought it would be the perfect time to talk about our character trait of the month- Gratitude! Gratitude is “readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.” Children are egocentric by nature, so we must teach gratitude at a young age.
Here are some easy ways to teach your children gratitude:
- · Model it- Children pay close attention to what we do and say. Saying “Please” and “Thank you” often around your children will help create that habit for them.
- · Have kids help- Giving your child a chore, and letting them complete it 100% on their own will help them gain perspective as to what people do for them.
- · Thank you notes- Insisting that your child write their own thank you note when giving a gift will help them gain perspective.
Thank you to all those who serve and have served our country.
Have a great weekend,
Ms. Alicia Bellamy M.S.Ed, LPSC
