MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
225th ISSUE: March 25, 2022
From the Desk of Mr. Curtis Price
The Winter athletic season has come to a close, and before looking ahead to warmer weather and Spring sports we want to take a moment to highlight some of our student-athletes who performed at the top level of their activities this Winter season.
The Chess team has had another incredible season, qualifying them to compete in the IHSA State Finals, even though they were short a few players at the Sectional. In describing his team, Coach Miller shared “the students at Marian Central never cease to amaze me. Every year, they find a way to get it done!”
The Marian Central Wrestling team continues to show that they are one of the best programs in the state! The team took 2nd at the Harvard Regional, a major accomplishment considering they were forced to forfeit points in multiple weight classes. Their hard work at Regionals and Sectionals paved the way for a strong showing at the State Finals as well. Congratulations to Kaden Harman (JR - 113lbs) and Vance Williams (FR - 132lbs) who finished in 5th and 4th place respectively at State!
Hoping to continue the momentum of our Winter sports, the Spring teams are starting their seasons off exceptionally strong! Our Boys Tennis team is 3-0, most recently defeating Rockford Boylan Catholic with singles victories by Billy Collins and Robert Eschenbacher, and doubles triumphs by Matt Garrelts and Patrick Kumm, Terry Blades and Thomas Kumm, and Ethan Tom and Chris Atadero.
Girls Soccer opened their season with a 4-0 win over Rockford Lutheran. Offensive threats Sidney Gerstenkorn, Kailie Rosato, Adriana Wrzos, and Angelina Cutrona were backed by great defense from Abby Miner, Mia Knapp, Lizzie Drwila, Greta Fortin, Sidney Gerstenkorn, Zuzanna Bajda, Mary Keane and 3 saves by goalie Anna Lingle to help complete the shutout in their 1st game of the season.
The tease of warm weather last week was a great reminder that sunshine and summer camps are quickly approaching! Registration for all Marian Central Summer Camps is OPEN! Scan the QR Code below for more information on what is available and get registered today! Click here to view our Summer Camp Brochure. You can keep up with all things Hurricane Athletics on the Marian Central 8to18 Athletic Website and all social media platforms. Have a restful Spring Break, we look forward to seeing everyone back and ready to finish out the school year strong in April!

Marian Community Prays Together
Today, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, consecrated Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in a penance service in Rome. This is a renewal of the consecration called for by our Lady of Fatima in 1917. Today at 11am, in a moment of unity and solidarity with Our Holy Father as well as with the people of Ukraine and Russia and all people of good will, Bishop Malloy consecrated our country and the Diocese of Rockford to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. At Marian Central, we paused as a school community while Fr. Warren led us in praying the consecration prayer.
If you would like to listen to the prayer led by Fr. Warren, please click here.
