SEES Physical Education Update
August 2023
Welcome back!
I am so excited for another year of physical education at San Elijo Elementary! I can't wait to see all my returning students this year and meet the new class of kindergarteners along with any new SEES kiddos. We are going to have another amazing year in our physical education classes this year. We are fully staffed with the best phys ed crew and can't wait to dive into our fun learning this year!
Sincerely,
Coach Miller
Meet the PE Crew!
COACH MILLER
I just wanted to share a little about myself and my philosophy as a physical educator. I am a mom of two boys, a 4th grader here at SEES and a 6th grader at SEMS. I grew up playing lots of sports including soccer, field hockey, softball and track. Soccer is my favorite sport and my team is the LA Galaxy. We love watching and going to games. My favorite things to do are run, hike, workout and watch my boys play soccer. I have been teaching for 12 years and this will be my 9th year at SEES. I love this school and community and feel so lucky to be a teacher here. I believe that being physically active is so important to a person's physical and mental health and am so passionate about sharing that with students. I want students to leave my class with the knowledge and skills that will help them to be confident and competent physical learners and help them to grow a love of movement and exercise as they move onto middle school and beyond.
COACH STEPHANY and COACH GIGI
We are so happy that Coach Stephany and Coach Gigi are both returning as PE instructional aides this year. They are both SEES moms and members of the San Elijo community. They both enjoy outdoor activities and love working with and supporting our SEES kiddos.
Important Reminders
- Proper shoes: Please send your child to school with proper shoes on their PE days. For example, closed toe shoes, that tie, such as tennis or running shoes. Boots, heeled shoes, and sandals are not safe or effective shoes for physical activity.
- Comfortable clothes: Please dress your child in clothes that they can move freely in and are comfortable for participating in physical activity. This includes, shorts under skirts or dresses. Your child will be participating in a wide range of physical activities and exercises and it is important that they feel comfortable to participate in all class activities.
- Water bottles: Students are highly encouraged to bring water bottles to our Physical Education class. When students bring a water bottle, they are able to take a quick water break during our active time. Students who do not bring a water bottle to class will be allowed to visit the drinking fountain at an appropriate time during class. Please write your child's name on their water bottle.
- Parent and Doctor's Notes: If your child has a medical reason that they are not able to participate in Physical Activity, please send a parent or doctor signed note with them to PE. If your child will be out longer than a week, a doctors note will be required. When a student is unable to participate in physical activity, they will either be a teacher's aide or working in a nutrition workbook for that class period. This will be based on student ability.
