Parents please make sure your child reads at least 30 minutes every night. Research says if a student reads every day for at least 20 minutes a day, they will hear 1.8 million words a year, and are more likely to score better than 90% of their peers. From the Principal
As you all know, we had some technical challenges starting off this school year. We had several children unenrolled after the PowerSchool system was updated this summer. If you will recall the long lines at the front office, many of our parents stood in lines for hours so they could get their children reenrolled. Our office staff, especially our registrar, Ms. Solis, did her best to get every student placed with a teacher. As I looked at the long lines, I could not believe the patience many of our parents showed with this huge challenge. I want you all to know that behind the scenes, we had been planning just about every detail possible so the year would begin as smoothly as possible. In spite of all our hard work, this challenge popped up and all we could do was try to help get the situation fixed as soon as possible. You know what they say about the best laid plans!
I wanted to take a moment and really thank you all for supporting us as we made some changes to our past practices. By opening the campus to visitors after Labor Day, you all really helped us have the time to go over our behavioral expectations. Our children were able to practice walking hallways, entering and exiting the cafe, learning procedures to get lunches. They have done an amazing job learning procedures so quickly. The teachers really worked hard getting our children up to speed on classroom expectations. If you enter any class at any time, the children are following procedures. Our PBIS team worked this summer to create standardized expectations to help minimize students confusion. These expectations are posted all over the building. This year we have moved to the PBIS Rewards system, so any adult can reward any child for following behavioral expectations. The children have already started using their points to buy rewards.
Thank you for your constant support in us and for trusting in us with your most valuable possession, your children! I am really looking forward to the best year ever and with your help, I know our children will continue to AMAZE US!
Your Proud Principal
Dr. Doreen Martinez
