Catholic Schools Week 2016 - next week!
Join us as we celebrate Catholic education at CtRCS next week! Please attend Mass at CtR this weekend; and have your students wear their dress uniforms. If we have a strong representation of students in uniform at the weekend Masses, Mrs. Sierra will award a free dress day to the whole school (date TBD)! Our choir will perform at the 11 a.m. Mass. The rest of our week includes the following events to celebrate Catholic education at our parish:
Monday, Feb. 1: Vocations Day - CtRCS will celebrate Vocations with speakers from our parish and around the Archdiocese!
Tuesday, Feb. 2: 9:30 a.m. Living Rosary - Parents, parishioners and CtR staff are invited to join us at 9:30 a.m. in the CtR Church.
Wednesday, Feb. 3: Grandparent’s Day - Grandparents should report to the church at 8 a.m. and will sit in the pew marked with the grade level of their eldest grand child. A reception, photographs and classroom visits will follow. Download the photo order form.
Thursday, Feb. 4: 10-1 p.m. Open House - experience firsthand how CtRCS uses technology in the classroom and also to get a feel for the faith-filled environment at CtR Catholic School. Join us for the opportunity to meet Principal Betty Sierra and ask the teachers questions.
Friday, Feb. 5: Souper Bowl Day - Students can break out their favorite team jerseys or T-shirts with jeans and closed toe shoes to close out our week of celebrating Catholic schools! Students also should bring a canned good to donate to Cypress Assistance Ministries.

An update from the CtRCS Library
Here's a bit about what's been happening in the library this month:
In January students learned about New Year's Resolutions and wrote their own after reading "Squirrel's New Year's Resolution." We talked about the importance or friendship with "Sophie's Squash."
All grades reviewed the parts of a book. Pre-K - 2nd Grade practiced sorting books into fiction and non-fiction. 3rd Grade - 5th Grade learned about identifying genres.
We all explored the importance of Martin Luther King, Jr. by reading and discussing "Martin's Big Words."
We also delved into informational non-fiction with the books "Little Dog Lost" and "Pierre the Penguin." Be sure to ask your kids about what happened to the dog trapped on an ice floe in Poland, and the penguin named Pierre at the California Academy of Sciences.
Coming up in February we'll have a guest reader sharing the history of Mardi Gras and the King cake tradition, recognize Valentine's Day with some of our favorite book characters, and focus on the genre of biography.
