HALO HIGHLIGHT - Course Selection Fair is Feb. 27
Dear Saints Parents,
In an effort to better inform you and students about the wide variety of curriculum options at St. Louis Catholic High School, as well as to hopefully decrease schedule change requests at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, we are hosting a Course Selection Fair Night for families on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Commons. This night is not intended to be a big presentation like Open House; instead the goal is to allow you to talk to departments at your own pace and get first-hand information about course opportunities so that you and your student can make informed decisions as you plan ahead for next year.
After this event, the Counseling Team will start reviewing students' 4-year plans and holding one-on-one meetings. In these meetings, we will review graduation requirements, discuss post-secondary goals and identify the best courses for your child for next year.
Each department will staff a table at the Course Selection Fair, so this is a valuable opportunity we hope you won't miss! Whether you're in the heart of your journey at St. Louis Catholic or next year will be the very beginning, we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Counseling Office at 436-7275 Ext. 236.
God Bless,
Susan Holmes
Counselor

Legislative Youth Advisory Council Applications Open Until March 22
The Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) is now accepting applications for membership from high school students who have an interest in representing the voices of other young people around the state. LYAC is an annually appointed body composed entirely of students that addresses issues affecting the youth of Louisiana.
The purpose of LYAC is to facilitate the communication between youth and the legislature, and to give students a unique opportunity to be involved in the workings of state government. The council studies and addresses issues of importance to young people, such as education, community service, employment, strategies to increase youth participation in government, safe environments for youth, substance abuse, underage drinking, and youth health and physical fitness.
Members of the council are selected from a wide pool of applicants from around the state who display a strong interest in civic involvement. The 31-member body includes three student members selected from each of the congressional districts.
The deadline for applications is March 22, 2019. Click here to access the application. All applicants are required to submit two recommendation letters and short essay questions with their application. For additional information please contact Megan Bella at bellam@legis.la.gov or 225-342-2370.
