ISTEP - Make ups
Thank you for all of your hard work in completing our first week of ISTEP! Make up testing will begin on Monday and will continue through the week as the schedule allows. The counselors will let you know daily who/when/where.
Follow-up thoughts on library dispays
Terri wrote to us today: "So while I was proctoring ISTEP this week I was reminded that we haven't had any projects displayed in the library in quite some time. Do you have any research-based or inquiry-based projects to display? These can be 3-D or posters that show student learning. They do not have to be complete projects- anything showcasing learning is what I'm looking for."
Good points! The same can be said for our hallways and classrooms. Many times we think that we need to display only finely crafted projects or final products of exceptional quality, however, what we really want to see is the documentation of the learning taking place. This can be a narrative of a process or strategies utilized, pictures with captions, testimonies of what and how a student learned something, group processes used to get to the final product, etc. We really want student created work and not worksheets or teacher created materials- show what the students are doing and creating as part of their learning!
Read Across America Day
Because our schedules are already disrupted with ISTEP, we have postponed our annual Read Across America read-in to next Friday afternoon. Beginning at the 2:15 bell on March 9th, I'm asking everyone to read something of his or her choice. Band and orchestra teachers, you are more than welcome to join us in the read-in too!
I also will be available throughout the day as my schedule permits to read to classes. I can bring my own book or continue a read aloud you have already started. Please let me know if you'd like me to be a guest reader in your classroom next Friday!
Thank you!!!

What Am I Doing?
As you begin to prepare for EOY processes, remember that you will meet with either Randy or Kim (whoever did your extended observation) to discuss work in Domains 1 & 3 this year. Prior to that conversation, you will need to upload the completed “What Am I Doing” document to SFS. (https://goo.gl/p5ZhC5) Those meetings should begin to be scheduled in the next few weeks, likely held after Spring Break.
Please remember that this is your opportunity to share all appropriate items with Randy & Kim. It is important that you be as complete/detailed as possible. Only include items that you have done in those domains this year.
STEM Zoo Project
Over the past 5 months, students in Mr. Teal, Mrs. Boykin, and Mrs. Anderson’s rooms have been working hard on a project for the Indianapolis Zoo. Their goal was to create an enrichment item to provide entertainment and growth opportunities for animals at the zoo. 5th graders were assigned meerkats, and 6th graders were assigned rhinos.
On March 14, 2018 at 9:00 am, they will be presenting their meerkat and rhino enrichment prototypes. Students from Mr. Teal, Mrs. Boykin, and Mrs. Anderson will be presenting their hard work. They need your help to determine the best prototype for each team!
They will need you to make a vote for the best prototype in Mr. Teal, Mrs. Boykin, and Mrs. Anderson's rooms. The winning team from each teacher will take their prototype and present to the Indianapolis Zoo. This will give the students a potential chance to have their creation in the exhibits.
They are looking forward to seeing you there!
