MountainView Elementary
February 2021
Message from the Principal, Chris Woodward
Hello Mountain View families. I’d like to start by letting you know how excited we all are to have all of our students back in school beginning on February 8.
I have just a few words to say on some important topics:
Back in School Plan: Our back in school safety plan is available on the ASD website or by following this link https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ojc_0RbigRwx6uzaL3KmSlJCt2kpZ2ebCdxrVgvT_7U/view This plan will tell you about all of the safety measures we are taking to keep everyone healthy.
Masks at school: A key component of our safety plan is that everyone who is on school property must wear a mask. This includes parents who are dropping kids off or picking them up. Most of our parents are following this rule and we thank them for it. Those who are not really need to start. The school can provide you with a mask if you do not have one. Our goal is 100% compliance on this item.
Hand Sanitizer: If you choose to send hand sanitizer from home for your student to use at school, please make sure it is the ethyl alcohol-based type. This is the only type that has been approved for use in ASD schools.
ASD Virtual: For families who are not ready to send their kids back to school in person, there is the option of transferring to ASD Virtual. This is a different program than what we have been doing through Zoom and Canvas. Please contact the office if you would like more information about this.
Cold Weather Gear: February is forecasted to be the coldest month of this winter and we have already seen some very cold days. Our students will continue to go outside for recess until it is 10 degrees below zero. Please make sure that your children are dressed for the weather when they come to school. Please contact the office if you are in need of assistance with this.
I hope you all have a safe and healthy February!

Message from Nurse Tammi
Hello Mustangs!
We have had a wonderful start to having younger students back in the classrooms! The students are very good at washing their hands and keeping the masks on! Students are also walking with “zombie arms” to keep their distance from their classmates. I can tell parents and families have been practicing with them. We are excited to have the older students join us soon.
We are working hard at keeping our students and the larger community healthy and virus free.
“ASD is Symptom Free”
is the motto this year in our Anchorage schools. If your student has a runny nose, cough, headache, fatigue, chills or any other symptoms of the flu please keep them home. Rest, lots of fluids and staying home is the best treatment for mild symptoms. Students must have resolving symptoms and be fever free without the use of medication for 24 hours before they can return to the classroom. As always, any problems with breathing or severe symptoms must be evaluated by your healthcare physician.
If you have questions about symptoms, travel quarantine or issues please call me at 742-3901. This is a complicated time. Routines and protocol change as the overall community health changes and improves.
Wear your mask. Social distance. Get the vaccine when you can.
Stay safe!
Community members, businesses and parents are invited to virtually visit any ASD school at the end of February/early March to learn more about the community's public schools. This coordinated effort provides parents and community members an opportunity to learn more about the many educational opportunities available.
Do you have a student entering kindergarten? Then you'll also be interested in our Kindergarten Roundup! Roundups are a set time for ASD school staff to share what to expect as your child begins kindergarten in the fall. Together we will partner to help your child be best prepared to experience early school success. For dates and times, please see information below or visit our Kindy Round-Up page!
