Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments.
World Kindness Week Spirit Assembly
Our social work interns, Ms. V and Ms. C., developed a wonderful initiative for World Kindness Week. A bulletin board with a Kindness Tree is proudly displayed in the main hallway. Students wrote kind words or a compliment about a member of the school community on a leaf. The leaves were hung on the Kindness Tree for all to see. For our whole school spirit assembly, Ms. Vitulano gave a presentation on preventing bullying by fostering kindness in our school. The students were placed into groups comprised of students across all grades and several adult facilitators. The groupings were created to allow for students to engage with other members of the school body while working together towards a goal. Students discussed ways to prevent bullying in our school (Ex. be kind to others, be an upstander, speak up, include others, etc.) and wrote messages on strips of paper that will be linked together and displayed.
Our SNAP ambassadors did an amazing job helping our third graders and teachers during our activity. It was an excellent community building activity!

A Few Reminders:
Students are not to arrive at school before 8:45. Supervision of students is not available until this time.
We have transitioned away from handwritten notes/emails for changes in dismissal procedures. If your child's dismissal procedures differ from initially planned, please complete the Sussex Avenue Note form to assist in proper notification and allow us to conduct dismissal most efficiently and safely. Without such notification, students will be sent home as outlined in their dismissal plan.
The end of the day in an elementary school is extremely hectic. We kindly ask that if you are picking up your child, you do so before 3:00 p.m. or complete the form and pick your child up at the side door at dismissal time. Please be advised students leaving before 3:18 are missing academic instruction.
The Weather is Changing
The general rule is that should parents send you in with a coat, you are to go out with a coat. However, we cannot force them to wear them outside. Please discuss with your child your expectations on wearing their coats, jackets, etc., for recess.
Stay warm!

Attendance Matters
Research shows that missing 10 percent of school, or about 18 days, negatively affects a student's academic performance. These habits are building blocks for academic achievement and personal growth, setting the stage for a bright future. Unless your child is sick, we expect your child to attend school every day.
