The Principal's Desk At Sycamore ES
Week Beginning January 11, 2016
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Sycamore Families!
I hope that you had an enjoyable holiday season with family and friends. Our amazing students returned to school ready to work and learn this past week and we can't be happier.
As we move toward excellence we are now focusing on improving our students' ability to read and understand what they have read. Additionally, they are practicing responding not only to reading but to their math problems. They are learning about project based learning and how to integrate STEM into their every day work. I am proud of our progress and always look forward to hearing about our students' accomplishments. Thank you for sending your students to us every day for us to impart knowledge on them to be even more successful!
You may have noticed that our school has a lot of visitors in the building before and after school. These great people are here to make our classrooms even better. They are continuing to update technology in every classroom and area of the school. We now have new flat screen TVs, projectors with teacher mics, production cameras and equipment, laptops and computers. We are also in the process of posting our safety door program which will aid our school in being a much more safe and secure environment. I will keep you posted about how this new safety measure will work as the team completes installation.
3rd-5th grade parents:
Our students will be taking the Georgia Milestones state assessment in April. As a staff, we will continue to keep you informed about how this assessment is designed and how your children can best succeed. Students will need to do well on this test to pass on to the next grade, so it is imperative that they work especially hard this last semester. Please reach out to us if you feel like you need additional support or explanation on its requirements.
We will send home last year's results for the Georgia Milestones this Friday, January 15th with report cards. At this time, 4th and 5th grade parents will be able to see their child's results and get a glimpse into how their child was measured on their performance. We will go over this at our February conferences on February 24th and February 25th in further detail.
