Leadership Message

First-day jitters lead to an amazing first week of back to school excitement. New teachers, new friends, new shoes, new notebooks, and sometimes, a new school. So many ways students were engaging with their learning and exploring new adventures and passions. We are looking forward to working collaboratively with each family.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Welcome our New Staff at JV

Keeping our school safe...Visiting the school Protocol

We are committed to ensuring a safe school for your children. Parents and visitors we ask you to please sign in at the office before walking the halls of the school. We ask, if you are volunteering or coming into the school for ANY reason, please sign in and let us know you are here in the building. Our responsibility in the office is knowing who is in the building at all times, especially in the case of emergency.

We also would like to kindly ask parents to wait outside at the doors for your children to be dismissed. Our halls become far too congested to have and extra bodies at the end of the day and students are working hard to learn routines. Thank-you for your cooperation and assistance with ensuring JV is a safe place for all students.

We are an APPLE school!

APPLE Schools is an innovative school-focused program that focuses on healthy eating, physical literacy, and mental health. We are committed at JV to teach, model, and provide opportunities for each of our students to develop life-long healthy habits. We continue to appreciate all of your support. Along with Mr. Marshall, Mrs. Rafuse, and all of our staff, we have Mrs. LeBel as our Healthy Champion Coach! Thanks for taking on this leadership role!

Aligning with our Apple School philosophy and our EICS Nutrition Administrative Procedure, we ask that all parents and school staff ensure strategies are in place to foster the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that promote safe, healthy eating. We recognize that breaking bread is an important element of our faith community and there will be times where we come together to share food in a celebratory manner. At these times, we will try to serve choices from the Choose Most Often and Choose Sometimes categories.

For nutrition purposes and because of the complexity of allergies at our school, we have asked staff and parents to please not bring in any food from home for class distribution such as; birthday cupcakes. While we recognize the value of celebrating in this manner, our commitment to the health and safety of our students takes precedence. Thank-you for your understanding.

We are St. Sophia’s Ukrainian Catholic Parish… a community of over 250 members mostly residing in and around Strathcona County. This year is a very exciting time for our Parish as we have made the announcement to start development of a brand new church in Sherwood Park.
