WINKLER WEEKLY

Friday, October 23rd

MR. GRAHAM'S MESSAGE

Happy Friday Winkler Families!

The fall is flying by way too fast. As we mentioned a few weeks ago some traditional school activities look and feel differently. However, we continue to adapt and adjust. We can't say it enough, we are extremely happy to still be able to meet in person. Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do as families outside of school to make this happen.

Fall Conferences will be held on the afternoon of November 4th and the evening of November 5th. You should have received an email regarding Parent/Teacher conferences today. Conferences will be conducted virtually through Google Meet. After you schedule a conference through Skyward Family Access your child's teacher will email you information regarding your conference. We look forward to meeting with you!

We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend,

Joel

VIRTUAL PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES

It's time to sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences. This year conferences will be VIRTUAL on November 4th and 5th. Parents/guardians will need to sign up for a specific 15-minute time slot on Skyward with their child’s teacher and participate in either a Google Meet or a phone conference. An email was sent to parents and guardians Friday morning opening conference sign-ups and instructions.

Please note: this is only for teachers and students who are in this building and not JEDI.

RED RIBBON WEEK

Red Ribbon Week is October 26th - 30th. Please join us in the special activities planned to celebrate our commitment to a healthy lifestyle, which includes remaining drug and alcohol-free, making safe choices, taking care of our bodies, and helping others!

Monday- Red day

All students and staff are invited to help kick off Red Ribbon Week by wearing red to support a Healthy Lifestyle!

Tuesday- Sock it to poor choices!

Wear crazy socks today.

Wednesday- Use your head to make good choices!

Wear your favorite hat today.

Thursday- Making good choices is no sweat!

All students and staff are invited to wear sweats or pajamas to school to show making good choices is no sweat!

Friday- We're happy, brave, and healthy and we've got spirit!

Show your spirit by wearing a BASD shirt or orange and black!

EXTRA CLOTHES

Please remember to pack your child's backpack with a change of clothes in a labeled ziplock bag. Accidents happen. Whether is a spill at lunch, mud on the playground, or a bathroom accident, having a change of clothes handy (no matter the grade/age) is really helpful in preventing an uncomfortable or embarrassing day. Some items to consider: shirt, pants/leggings, underwear, and socks.

WARM CLOTHES

Speaking of extra clothes, if you haven't noticed it's getting pretty chilly again. Gotta love that Wisco weather! Please sent hats, gloves/mittens, and warm coats with your kiddos every day. Once it snows, you will need to send snowpants and boots for the kids to play on the equipment or grass.

LICE CHECKS

Just a reminder to perform regular head lice checks on your child. Checking weekly or even daily is a good idea to catch it early in the event lice would be making a new home in your child’s hair. Sleep-overs, slumber parties, taking “selfies” with friends, and sharing hats or hair accessories have been determined to spread lice most often.

Please review the Burlington Area School District’s procedure for lice which can be found on the School Health Services website page: http://www.basd.k12.wi.us/health_services.cfm BASD follows recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and National Association of School Nurses.

TRANSPORTATION CHANGE?

Friendly reminder: Changing transportation home from school? Please remember to send a note, email, or call the office. For your child's safety, we will send your child home via the usual route if we don't hear directly from you.

MILK MONEY

Thanks to a special grant given to BASD, hot lunches with milk are free for all students.

*Please note: If your child takes a cold lunch she/he will be charged 30 cents if they would like milk. Please consider keeping some money in your child's Skyward lunch account for milk if they take cold lunch. Students will be encouraged to drink water if there are no available funds in Skyward.

PRESCHOOL SCREENING

BASD's offers preschool screenings for *parents concerned about their child's development*. This is for children between the ages of birth to 5 years old. This is different than the 4K or 5K kindergarten screening.

Screenings take place on November 11, January 20, and March 24. Schedule an appointment by calling the district at 763-0210.
