The Staff at Mountain View Elementary
Students in Mrs. Guevara’s classes explored Latin Jazz by reading Tito Puente: Mambo King/Rey del Timbal by Monica Brown and Illustrated by Rafael López. They studied his virtuosic timbale skills and practiced dancing salsa with the song, “Ran Kan Kan.” Mrs. Guevara shares her love of music, and how it has power to help us both celebrate the good times and motivate us through the difficult ones.

Friday Curbside Pick Up for Learning Materials
Our staff continues to put together learning materials for students in all grade levels. We are setting up times on Fridays from 10AM to 2PM for families to pick them up. Each Thursday, we will send you a message if we have materials ready for your child. If these times don’t work for you and your family, we will leave the learning materials in the front entrance area so that you can pick them up at a later time during school hours. If transportation is an issue, please let us know so that we can get you the items.
Attendance Counts
Please send us an email or call the front office any time your child is absent Monday through Thursday. In the virtual learning environment, we consider a child absent when she or he does not participate in any synchronous or asynchronous work for the day. This includes Zoom classes and work in Seesaw. Please include in your message your child’s name and the reason for the absence:

Update from the School Counseling Team
The school counseling theme for the month of October is Kindness in connection with National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. Each school counseling lesson during the month of October will be focused on kindness, empathy and inclusion. During the week of October 19-22, MVES will celebrate Kindness Spirit Week.
Unity Day - On 10/21 wear and share orange to show that we are together against bullying, and united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Make it ORANGE and make it end! What are your true colors when it comes to showing that you believe that all youth should be safe from bullying? Come together in one giant ORANGE message of hope and support, WEAR AND SHARE ORANGE to color our nation, and even the world, visibly showing that our society believes that no child should ever experience bullying.
Toy Lift - Please complete online survey complete by November 3 in order to participate
It’s hard to believe we are talking about holidays already. However, many organizations like Toy Lift are starting early to adjust for current situations.
If your family needs assistance from the Toy Lift, you must complete the voucher on-line. The deadline to submit your form on-line is Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
Here is the link to the online voucher:
English Form: https://bit.ly/32Co8QT
Spanish Form: https://bit.ly/30Pka64
Some things to keep in mind:
Toy Lift will not accept bike requests this year.
According to Toy Lift, the earlier you apply the better chance they have of being able to meet your child’s wish list request.
If you have children at Burley Middle School and Mountain View, please consider selecting one school as your pick-up location for all of your children. Picking up at one location will help eliminate multiple pick-up stops for you and your family.
If you have questions or concerns, please text Donalee Rooks at 434-964-6733. Thank you!
