Brewster Weekly

Sept. 16, 2022

We are here to do good things for our students, our coworkers, and our community.

We represent qualities such as love, hope, kindness, respect, and responsibility.

Our culture mirrors those attributes. Let’s continue to make our school the best place to work and learn where everyone is inspired to be the best they can be. What we do, we do well.

Let’s keep the courage to shape a bright future for our students.

Positivity Project

Dear Families,

Next week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Teamwork. Teamwork means you work well as a member of a group or team. You are loyal, reliable, and dedicated to helping your team achieve its goals.

Teamwork is the ability and willingness to place overall group success as a higher priority than individual achievement. Those who demonstrate strengths in teamwork often work to help all group members find success. These individuals are willing to commit time and resources in order to further group goals and help toward the greater good.

For individuals, teamwork often means deferring or delaying individual accomplishments in order to ensure that the group maintains a high level of success. Their commitment to the larger group effort makes them good teammates. The positive feelings associated with being part of a larger whole -- can be highly beneficial and combat selfishness and egotism.

To practice and encourage the character strength of teamwork with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.

Have a wonderful week!

Arrival and Dismissal AND Parking Lot Reminders

OUR PARKING LOT IS ONE WAY TRAFFIC- COUNTER CLOCKWISE ONLY

We have seen cars exiting at our Brewster entrance, please make sure you are exiting using the driveway to the RIGHT of our school sign as your car moves toward Brewster Road!!

The kids are doing so well and acclimating to our school routines! We are now encouraging all families to use our car loop to drop off and pick up students safely. Staff will continue to support. All sidewalks lead safely to and from each entry and exit door.

Let's encourage independence and build confidence!

For arrival: THANK YOU for using our crosswalks and not crossing unattended. We are using one pedestrian crosswalk to avoid stopping cars that are coming around a curve and often can not see with our bright sun in the morning. Thanks for getting your steps in and saying hello to Mrs. Dessy in the morning as you cross! We have marked the other crosswalk with a sign that says bus only to remind adults not to use. Our bus driver really appreciates not having families in this area as they load and unload our students.

For dismissal: We encourage the safe use of our car loop. We are noticing caregivers are parking and then crossing into traffic asking for their children, if you drove a car to Brewster, please use the car loop. We dismiss officially at 3:13pm and have been completed with dismissal daily by 3:25pm. We highly encourage families to use the loop, display your sign, and allow your child to walk to the car safely. When our weather turns damp or brisk, the car loop will have all of our students using this routine, let's start now.

Thank you for keeping our kids safe!

Blake’s Fall Family Night

We will continue our tradition of family night at Blake’s with campfires, donuts, and cider. Our event will be Friday, October 14 6p-9:30p. The event will be $12 at the door. We will have a form in Membership Toolkit for you to RSVP to so we can have enough donuts and cider for all!

Membership Toolkit

Membership Toolkit is a website and app used by the Brewster PTA. On Membership Toolkit you can find a Brewster directory, calendar of events, and make secure purchases. You do not need to be a PTA member to use most of the features on Membership Toolkit. To create an account, you need to go the website first. Once you create your account on the website, you can download the app on your mobile device. If you already use Membership Toolkit, please log in to update your student’s information for the new school year. Use this link to create or update your account https://rhillsbrewsterpta.membershiptoolkit.com/

Brewster Facebook Group

The Brewster Facebook group is a great way to connect with Brewster families and learn about upcoming events. If you are a member of the Brewster Facebook group, please send an invite to Brewster families that are not yet members. For the safety of our students, the Brewster Facebook group is private. To join, you need to be a current Brewster family and answer the questions to join the group.

Join the PTA

You can join the PTA by going to the store on the Membership Toolkit app or clicking this link Join the Brewster PTA. By joining the PTA you will have access to the Brewster directory on the Membership Toolkit website and app.

Annual Fundraiser

The Brewster PTA has launched its Annual Fundraiser and a yellow flyer came home with your oldest child at Brewster. Our hope is to pivot from ongoing fundraising activities throughout the year that support Brewster students, teachers and staff, to a one-time donation made by each family at the beginning of the year. To make a donation use this link General PTA Donation or go to the store on Membership Toolkit. While there is no set amount that we are requesting, as we are sensitive to every family’s financial capacity, we hope and suggest the following amounts: $60 per family with one Brewster student or $85 per family with two or more Brewster students.
