Welcoming Marc Brown!

Another enriching, joyful week at Center School. A visit from Marc Brown was certainly the highlight! We have no doubt that Arthur books and the show provided many hours of entertainment into many of our homes. Mr. Brown has led a fascinating life and shared many fun stories about his journey as an author and illustrator. Many thanks to you and our CSPTO for this visit. A special thanks to Michelle Beard and Tiara Duff who have volunteered many hours to organize these engaging enrichment events.
Please see the sections below for important placement and survey information.
Center school will be showcased at the school committee meeting on Tuesday at 6 PM. Please consider tuning in. We will have four Center musicians sharing their keyboarding talents.
Given the short week and upcoming break, our next update will be shared on May 1st. Please be well and enjoy the break.
Warm Regards,
Dianna and Donna
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Survey
Dear Families,
Please help us learn more about Center School families and how we are doing at building a welcoming, inclusive, and collaborative school community. Your honest, anonymous answers on this brief (5 minute) survey will help provide valuable information to help us serve your children - and our entire school community - better. Please complete the survey by April 17th, if you haven't already done so. Thank you to the 103 individuals who have already completed the survey.
We will review the results and discuss next steps in May.
Sincerely,
Center School Council

Placement Information
Dear Families,
Our placement process for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year is beginning and will take place over several weeks. This process is truly a team effort that involves input from school personnel and student data gathered over time. We put great care into the decisions that are made. All information is reviewed by the present grade level teachers, reading teachers, special education teachers, school counselor, principal and other appropriate personnel so that we can be confident that classroom configurations are conducive to learning.
Dear Families,
When creating classrooms, it is important that we are mindful to the needs of our students across grade levels. Individual classes need to strike the delicate balance between overall range of abilities, learning styles, special needs, conduct and appropriate combinations of students. Final lists are reviewed very carefully to ensure we have used our collective professional judgment to place each child appropriately in a well-balanced class. Our goal at Center is to provide a learning environment that meets the needs of the whole child and placement is a key factor in realizing this goal. Your input in the process is gladly accepted. If you feel that there is additional information of which we should be aware in placing your child for next year, please inform us by letter or email, by Friday, April 29, 2022. Any information shared beyond this date may not be considered as placement decisions will already be made. Please keep in mind that we are unable to honor requests for individual teachers. Letters containing such requests will be returned to you.
Thank you for your involvement and continued partnership in your child's education at Center.

Notes from the Nurse
The number of positive COVID-19 cases in the district continue to remain low. We are monitoring trends in the data for any indicators that would require an adjustment to school practices. While the good news is that the number of positive cases in our schools are low, the COVID-19 virus remains a presence in our community. Differentiating between seasonal allergy symptoms and the symptoms of the COVID-19 virus presents a challenge. Please do not assume symptoms "are just a cold" and test for the Covid virus when in doubt. Free covid test kits are available from school.
It is also imperative that students and staff remain home if feeling unwell and to test for COVID-19 if symptomatic to prevent the spread of illness. We continue to strongly recommend individuals get vaccinated and, if eligible, receive the booster to prevent severe illness and to reach a collective state of immunity.
We truly appreciate the tremendous support of our students, staff, and families as we continue to navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 virus.

Center Cares
Dear Center Community,
We often think of donating to help others in need around holiday times in November and December, however circumstances that impact families financially arise at all times of the year.
Please, know that we are currently seeking gift card donations to help our families that need some extra support. Gift cards in $20-25 increments (or any amount) from Target, Walmart or Market Basket would be most welcome! Please, if you are able to make a donation you may drop off gift cards at the front office.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and care.
Warm regards,
Ms. Lallas, Center School Counselor
