News from Panther Headquarters
December 2016
From the desk of the Principal...
Hello Panther Families –
Greetings from the land of the Panthers! It is a very busy time for Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate & Junior high. There is a lot to be accomplished during the short month of December; our last day of school before break will be Friday, December 16th.
With the semester ending this month prior to Holiday Break, all students in grades 5-8 will be taking Round 2 of the NWEA assessment. The results will allow teachers to see where academic growth and achievement have taken place for our students, and thus drive their instructional planning accordingly. It is our belief that all students can learn, but they learn at different rates. With the excellent instruction provided by our staff and the willingness of students to work hard and do their best, they will show growth in their learning. We believe in the attached photo. When students say they don’t understand, we remind them to add ‘…YET’ to the end of their comment. In order to provide optimal time for students to be successful, we will be operating on a NO SLT schedule for 7th and 8th graders from 12/1, 12/2, 12/7, and 12/8 where class periods will be eight minutes longer. Remember that Monday, January 2nd is a teacher work day only and students will return to second semester on Tuesday, January 3rd.
It is our mission to provide the best possible education learning environment for all of our students, and in doing so, provide the communication that families need to stay involved as a partner. When questions arise, please contact our teachers, counselors, or administrators to assist you as needed. We appreciate your support along our educational journey, and on behalf of the HIJH Staff, I wish you the very best as we approach this Holiday SeasonJ!!

Hamilton Southeastern Schools takes pride in helping our community in many different ways. The food service department is no exception! Many of our schools participate in a food rescue program that benefit Hamilton County. Here at Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate and Junior High we collect un-opened food containers that are donated during the week. On Monday morning a group of volunteers from Grace Community Church come and collect our donations, sort through and distribute the foods that evening to families from our community. While we do not encourage our students to purchase “extra” food for the program, we do appreciate their donations of anything that is not eaten and un-opened.
A side note to this is that one of our 8th grade students has developed the program application that counts, tracks and converts what is donated to how many meals are served with the donated foods.
Way to go Panthers!

Backing up your device:
It is a good idea to back up any and all devices in your household whether it is to a computer, external hard drive, or iCloud. There are always situations that we cannot or did not plan for, and having a back up helps!
This link from Apple https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203977 gives step by step information on how to back up an Apple device to a computer using iTunes or to an iCloud account.
