Clarkville Te Kura ki Waimātao
What an amazing 2 weeks and start to Term 4 at Clarkville Te Kura ki Waimātao!
Last Monday, the team organised a mihi whakatau. My previous school Belfast were invited also, with both sets of tamariki performing waiata. The Belfast School Kapa Haka group also performed a haka, which was very special.
Last Thursday morning, we held an assembly where parents, caregivers and whānau could come to attend to learn a little more about me also. I know many are busy with work and family commitments so thank you to those that were able to make it.
Thank you so much to the many parents, caregivers and whānau who have introduced themselves to me. If I haven’t had a chance to meet you yet and you see me, please grab me. Making connections with all members of the Clarkville community is extremely important. I have made a goal of learning all the children’s names and finding out about what makes them so special as quickly as possible!
The children these past 2 weeks have been amazing and so welcoming! The staff team led by Linda, Kristie, Paula and Kathryn have also been amazing at supporting my transition and answering my many questions. Thank you also to Rachael Spencer, Sarah Long and the School Board team also for making me feel very welcome. I feel very fortunate to be at such a special place!
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the children on a fabulous Athletics Day on Wednesday. The children all competed and tried their best while having a blast! Thank you also to the many parents, caregivers and whānau who were able to attend and support the children. It was a really special day and an opportunity to bring the community together after a couple of tough years. A special thanks also to Holly Greenslade, Nick Burson and the rest of the staff who put so much planning into the day. When you see an event come together successfully it makes all the preparation worth it!
I hope everyone in the school community has a great weekend. Hopefully the weather will play its part and we can all spend some time outdoors.
Take care.

Sport Update - Huxter
Huxster Bike race:
On the first Wednesday of this term, 18 of our students chose to be more and entered the Huxster bike race. The Huxster is a timed bike race around Mcleans Island. The children raced in pairs and worked together to complete as many laps as they could in a given time. It was such a great day and the children were wonderful showing super school spirit!
We had some stand-out performances from our athletes:
- Clara-Jane Long and Ben Polden - 2nd Yr 8 mixed.
Tommy Drummond and Blake Boltar - 3rd Yr 5 boys.
Milla Chamberlain and Annabel Sutherland - 1st place Yr 6 girls.
Thank you to the incredibly supportive group of parents who went along to the event. It wouldn't have been possible or as fun without you.
