Principal's Message
Dear Duniway School Community,
Thank you for another beautiful week at Duniway. This weather is outstanding; we are lucky to get one last taste of summer before the rain sets in.
Thank you to everyone who supported our Scholastic Bookfair. I love the book fair and fondly remember visiting it in elementary school. Seeing students in this space and all the folks willing to support them is heartening.
We have worked in the last few weeks to increase volunteering opportunities. I am so glad to offer lunch volunteering again this year, in kindergarten, first-grade lunch, and the second and third-grade lunch block. It has been great to see so many returning volunteers and some new faces. If you haven't already, please sign up on Konstella. Spots go fast. A reminder that all volunteers must have an approved, current, and valid background check before signing up.
Our choir starts next week. Please be reminded that you must drop students off on SE Rex and that students enter through the 2nd-grade entrance off the blacktop (see map below.)
On October 19th, Duniway will participate in International ShakeOut Day. This earthquake preparedness day is a crucial safety event, and we are excited to team with the Eastmoreland Neighborhood Association on this drill.
Have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy that warm fall weather, and please check the forecast for next week. There might be some rain, so please remember to send students with jackets if that is the case.
Best.
Principal Philip Rafferty
3rd + 4th Grade Field Trip
Thank you parent Phil Miller, of Fortis Construction, Inc, for leading students on a field trip through the new Reed College gymnasium. Really cool to get this opportunity for students to learn about architecture, construction, math, and science in action!
Choir Drop Off
We are excited for our Duniway Choir to begin on October 10th. Please review the updated arrival protocols:
- Choir will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays for students in grades 3-5 who have signed up with Ms. Adams.
- Students will enter through the entrance by the blacktop on SE Rex.
- The entrance be open from 7:55 to 8:00 a.m.
- Students arriving by car can be dropped off on SE Rex.
- Please refrain from driving on SE Reed College Place. It's a very busy street in the mornings and we had several "near misses" there last year.
- Thank you for your help in keeping our community safe!
Change of Clothes for All Students
With accidents and the rainy season upon us, we are asking all families to send a ziploc bag with a change of clothes to leave at school for each of your students. The bag should be labeled with your student's first and last names and include a top, bottom, underwear, and socks. Thank you!
