A Note from the Principal
Pioneer Families,
It is hard to believe that we are finishing our fifth full week of school. We have enjoyed a positive and exciting start! Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered in the cafeteria, assisted during the eclipse and volunteered inside the classrooms. We could not do our jobs without you. I would like to extend an invite to our first PTS meeting on Tuesday, September 12 at 7:00P.M. in our Media Center.
August has been busy with learning procedures, building relationships, screening our readers with DIBELS (a universal reading screener), celebrating with Blue from the Colts and kicking off our fundraiser with Boosterthon. We are looking forward to our Fun Run on September 7 and the Homecoming Parade on September 27.
I would like to encourage parents to utilize our bus transportation service. The car rider line has grown this year. We are working on making improvements on our system to get the cars through faster, typically at dismissal. In the meantime, thank you for encouraging your student to ride the bus.
As we continue to focus on growing the whole child, we appreciate your partnership. Thank you for allowing us the privilege of sharing the day with them. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend!
Always learning,
Mrs. Schoene
Lost and Found
Fun Run Sept. 7th
Parents! This year’s main fundraiser is the Pioneer Fun Run! We kicked off the 9-day program with an exciting Pep Rally on Monday. Families can gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on Thursday, September 7th. With our big goal of raising $12,000 for field trips and classroom enrichment, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it more profitable, easier, and fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, CASTLE QUEST! an English castle theme all about being brave and living with character. On their quest to regain Bravemore Castle, students will learn the “SIX VIRTUES of a TRUE HERO” from a cast of colorful characters.
Donations will go toward field trips and classroom enrichment and to the entire 9-day experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!
Fun Run Schedule:
Fourth Grade: 9:35-10:20
Fifth Grade: 10:25-11:10
Second Grade: 12:00-12:45
Third Grade: 12:50-1:35
Kindergarden: 1:40-2:25
First Grade: 2:30-3:15
A note from the Nurse
Immunizations
If your child needs an immunization to be up to date with state standards, I have been contacting you by letter or phone. I will work with you to schedule appointments, and MCHD has walk in clinics and appointments for immunizations each week (MCHD South District office 505 E National Ave; 317-221-5700), but we are approaching a deadline for compliance in October. Please schedule your appointments and bring me the updated shot record after obtained or have the record faxed to 317-862-7255. We do not want any student to miss instruction time due to missing immunizations.
NOTICE OF FIRST, THIRD AND FIFTH GRADE VISION SCREENING

All children in the first grades, third grades, fifth grades, and students who are new to Marion County, and children from other grades suspected of having a vision problem will be screened this day. Please mark your calendars for this important day. If your child already wears glasses, please be sure that they are wearing them for the screening.

It is our goal to prepare your student and our staff members for the unexpected need to safely evacuate a school bus in an emergency situation. The need for this action would only take place if the students were in immediate danger. Each year we practice different scenarios to help us be ready for the unexpected emergency. Please help our efforts by speaking with your child and preparing them for our drill. Students will be instructed to leave any carry-on items in their assigned seat. Please help us the day of the drill by having them wear sensible clothing as they may be instructed to slide down and slide out the rear door while being assisted. They will be required to stand outside for a short period of time. This practice exercise will be handled professionally with the same attention to safety as a school fire drill.
We appreciate your support in this training exercise. Thank you!
Also the following bus rules are posted on the bus. Please review them with your child. Thank you!
*No food or drink on the bus.
*Wear seatbelts, if equipped
*Electronic devices cannot interfere with the safety of the driver and students
*Keep all body parts inside the bus. Windows can be down ¼ of the total window
*Stay in your assigned seats at all times
*No weapons or inappropriate items
*Only Franklin Township staff and students on the bus
*No physical or verbal mistreatment
*Carry-on items must be kept away from emergency exits and out of the aisle
Art Room News
Greetings from the art room! I'm Mr. Rohrer and I will be here until Mrs. McQueen returns on October 30. I used to teach art in IPS and Decatur Township years ago and enjoy returning to the classroom, even if for a short time.
This school year we will once again be posting most of our art projects on Artsonia, which not only lets you share your child's artwork with friends and relatives far away, but also offers us a wonderful way to earn funds for the artroom through customized keepsakes. You can order your child's art on mugs, t-shirts, prints, plaques, key chains, ornaments, tote bags, postcards, and more.
All uploaded artwork remains hidden (only viewable when you login to your parent account) until the parent visits Artsonia and gives permission to show the artwork in the school public gallery. Permission slips are available from your child's classroom teacher or from Mr. Rohrer, art teacher. If you have not already done so, visit https://www.artsonia.com/permission and enter in the supplied screen name and parent code. There are still some of you who haven't given permission for your child's art work to be included in the online art gallery. If you are not sure if you already gave your permission and set up an account, simply log into artsonia and if it lets you in, you have already given permission.
