Poston Road's TIGER Tracks

Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger

March 2021 Newsletter

A Note from Mrs. Vlcan

I want to provide you with some insight into what Wednesdays look like for our staff at Poston Road Elementary. While our students are at home eLearning, we come to school on Wednesdays with a student-centered focus. We spend some of our day preparing and organizing the many aspects that take place while teaching in both a virtual and in-person environment. But most of our day is spent on collaboration and professional development. We collaborate as a staff but also as a district. We spend time learning and growing from each other on many different levels.

In addition to our collaboration time, we also participate in both district wide and school specific professional development. On Wednesday, March 3rd, the staff at Poston Road will earn their Global Competence certificate. This twelve week journey has allowed our staff to be trained on how to create a more global mindset for our students. We want our students to understand that there is more to the world than what they experience in Martinsville, Indiana. We want to teach them how to understand each other and be understanding of each other's differences. We have collaborated and used this training to come up with ways to incorporate this new learning into our classrooms and I cannot be more excited! If you follow us on Facebook, you may have gotten a glimpse into some of these new concepts.

I am confident that I am speaking for the entire staff at Poston Road Elementary when I say that we are truly grateful for the opportunities that our Wednesdays have provided us. The growth that we have experienced will positively impact the students at Poston Road Elementary for the months and years to come!

Thank you for your support!

Enroll Your Kindergartener in the Spanish Immersion Program!

Did you know that people who speak more than one language have improved memory, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, enhanced concentration, ability to multitask, and better listening skills?

Our Spanish Immersion program at Poston Road Elementary allows students the opportunity to learn Spanish through their daily subject areas all while mastering the same academic standards required by the state as the non-Spanish Immersion students. At the elementary level, the program begins in kindergarten and goes through fourth grade.

We are now enrolling kindergarten students for the upcoming 2021-22 school year. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before October 1, 2021.
