Mary's Mount Primary School
Term 3, Week 7 - 2 September 2022
'In the spirit of reconciliation, Mary’s Mount Primary School acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.'
Dear Parents and Carers
This Sunday we celebrate Father’s Day, a day to focus on the importance of fathers or father figures in our lives and the crucial teachings that they have given us. Tomorrow morning we will gather as community to share in prayerful moments to thank our God for the Fathers and father figures in our life. Breakfast will follow and I am sure there will be great conversation and the sharing of beautifully cooked bacon and egg rolls organised and prepared by Mrs Mappin and the Year 5 parent group. Thank you to all the volunteers who have offered to assist in the setup and serving of the breakfast.
Happy Father’s Day and I thank you for the fatherly support you give to Mary’s Mount Primary School daily. It certainly makes our jobs easier and more of a delight.
IT’S ALL ABOUT MATHS
Ben Saulsman, who is the Numeracy consultant from CEWA shared with a highly engaged group of parents his insights on teaching Maths at Mary’s Mount Primary School. Ben has been working alongside the teachers here at MMPS as we focus in on creating a whole school approach in the teaching of Maths.
Parents who attended have given the school fabulous feedback on how much they enjoyed the session and how much they learnt. During the presentation, Ben spent time reviewing what a C grade, B grade, and A grade looks like, sounds like, and feels like for a child. Ben reflected with the group on what A behaviours are and how we can encourage them in our children.
We are considering running another session later this year, or early next year to share Ben’s insights with more members of our community. Watch this space! We will continue to keep you informed as this whole school pedagogical approach to teaching Maths unfolds.
EDUCATION ASSISTANT APPRECIATION WEEK
The Year 6 leaders visited all Education Assistants at Mary’s Mount this week to let them know just how much we appreciate them, the kindness, compassion, patience, and joy they bring to our school helps us be who we are…a thriving learning community. The Year 6 School Leaders spent time with me brainstorming what makes these exceptional members of our school staff so special. This is what they came up with;
Approachable, amazing, loving, enthusiastic, caring, kind, helpful, joyful, respectful, devoted, positive mindset, and likable and they find a fun way to help us learn.
As a Catholic school community, we are committed to building strong relationships with our parish, Holy Family. This is an opportunity for children from our school to actively participate in a parish mass. On Saturday 3 September Pre-primary, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6 students from Mary's Mount Primary School will host mass. Our school choir will be singing and leading the musical aspect of the mass. Please come along and joyfully engage in this prayerful experience. We look forward to seeing you at Holy Family Parish on Saturday 3 September at 6pm.
PARKING and KISS AND DRIVE
This is a gentle reminder of the parking and drive-through processes we have in place to ensure the safety of students and our wider community. Please remember parking at drop-off and pick-up is only allowed in the marked designated areas around the school on Davies, Crescent, and Noel Road. An inspector has been known to visit our school periodically and issue fines to anyone parked illegally or not following the signs.
- do not park on the verge on the corner of Davies Crescent and Noel Road;
- do not block any driveways of residents around the school;
- drive slowly when exiting car bays and pulling out of school car parks;
- be aware of children on foot and on bikes (returning home from other schools);
- when exiting Noel Rd Kiss and Drive area, please turn left not right.
NATIONAL CATHOLIC EDUCATION CONFERENCE (NCEC)
I will be away next week as I am attending the NCEC in Melbourne. The aim of NCEC 2022 Conference is to bring together school and system leaders, educators, clergy and religious, students, educational professionals, researchers, and families to promote examples of best practices and plan future directions to continue the flourishing of vibrant and authentically Catholic learning communities across Australia. The theme of the conference is the future is listening.
I look forward to sharing my learning with you on my return.
Be the best part of someone else's day - Ben Crowe
