Candidate: Andrew Steinman, EdTech Consultant

About Andrew Steinman

Andrew is a former IB Biology teacher and now works at the Kent ISD as an educational technology consultant. In his 8 years as a professional educator, he has focused on helping students, parents, teachers, and administrators effectively integrate technology for the purpose of increasing student achievement. Andrew has organized and conducted professional learning opportunities across the state of Michigan. He was also named Outstanding Technology Using Educator of the Year by MACUL in 2015.

Why Andrew Steinman

Andrew has been a MACUL member for the past 5 years. He has lead presentations and facilitate workshops at the MACUL Conference for the past 4 years. Andrew joined SIGPL last year and served on the Advisory Board for this group. He is now on the SIGPL Steering Committee and hopes to become SIGPL's next Operations Officer.

The SIGPL Operations Officer is responsible for the normal operations of the SIG. Andrew has completed training in Adaptive Schools and utilizes the techniques he learned to facilitate meetings and lead teams. These skills will help him with the responsibilities of the Operations Officer, including:
  • Running elections for Steering Committee
  • Maintaining the by-laws
  • Working with the MACUL Finance Manager

Andrew has over 6 years of experience organizing organizing professional learning conferences and events. Some examples of these events are included below. The skills he has learned through his experiences organizing professional learning conferences and events, Andrew will be able to conduct additional responsibilities of the Operations Officer, including:
  • Maintaining the budget
  • Handling the logistics for pre-conference sessions and annual meeting
  • Coordinating any purchases for the SIG

Moving Forward

If Andrew is elected as the SIGPL Operations Officer, he will support the mission and goals or both SIGPL and MACUL. He will also carry out all the essential duties of the SIGPL Operations Officer.

Andrew's focus will be on providing professional learning opportunities focused on effective technology integration practices for pre-service teachers, practicing educators, and administrators. He will seek opportunities to partner with other SIGs and organizations to provide professional learning opportunities. Andrew will also help increase awareness and membership of SIGPL through these partnerships.
